Poetry Reading By Polly Brody Sunday At Library

The public is invited to an author reception and poetry reading with former longtime Newtown resident Polly Brody.

On Sunday, January 10, at 2 pm, at C.H. Booth Library, Ms Brody (who now lives in neighboring Southbury) will read from her new collection of poetry, Stirring Shadows.

 “In Stirring Shadows, Polly Brody looks with an unflinching eye upon many kinds of darkness: evil, illness, loss, betrayal, separation, death and, in language that is sure, searing, lyrical, and spare, cracks the safe of these hard realities for the gold cached within them,” said fellow poet Susan Deborah King.

Stirring Shadows may be the darkest manuscript to date by Polly Brody but it is not, says the author, morbidly dark. “It deals with situations humans go through — life and death,” Ms Brody told The Newtown Bee in November upon the book’s publication.

After the reading, refreshments will be served, and books will be available for purchase. Two earlier books, At the Flower’s Lip and The Burning Bush, both signed by the author, are currently available for purchase at the second floor circulation desk, with all proceeds going to benefit the library, thanks to Ms Brody’s generosity.
