Newtown Hockey Team Skates To Consecutive Wins
The Newtown High School hockey team improved to 3-1 after defeating Fitch/East Lyme on December 29 and topping Watertown/Pomperaug on January 2.
The Nighthawks blanked Fitch/East Lyme 5-0 at Connecticut College in New London. Five players scored in the victory. Brett Klein scored a goal assisted by Josh Branchflower, David Landau, Matt Vitti, and Parker Rodbell all had unassisted goals, and Sean Kennedy scored a goal set up by Harmon Coffey. Goaltender Dylan Deselin had 26 saves to earn the shutout. The Nighthawks had 33 shots on goal in the win.
Newtown then defeated Watertown/Pomperaug 3-1 at Taft Schoolâs Mays Rink in Watertown behind the efforts of three scorers and 33 Deselin saves. Vitti scored a goal assisted by Evan Issacs and Rodbell, Klein scored a goal set up by Branchflower and Rodbell was assisted by Vitti for another tally. Newtown peppered the Watertown/Pomperaug net with 38 shots.
After visiting New Milford (at Canterbury School) on Wednesday (after The Bee sports section went to press) Newtown returns to Danbury Ice Arena to host Shepaug-Litchfield-Wamogo at 7:40 pm on January 13.
