MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Kathleen Green, 18, of 22 Tunnel Road about 10 pm on December 28 on West Street for not having the rear marker plate on her vehicle illuminated.

After investigating, police said they charged Green with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate, driving a vehicle with tinted windows without having a window tint decal, and driving with a suspended license. 

Police released her on a written promise to appear January 12 in Danbury Superior Court.

Eyeglasses Found

A pair of reading eyeglasses with blue-brown frames was found on December 21 at the public service counter at the town Land Use Agency in the Newtown Municipal Center at 3 Primrose Street at Fairfield Hills, according to police. The owner may claim the eyeglasses at the police station.

Icy Road Mishap

Motorist Teela Seligmann, 19, of Sherman was driving a 1990 Toyota Camry sedan southward near 137 Currituck Road about 7:48 am on December 28, when while taking a curve in the road to the left, the vehicle went out of control on the icy pavement, police said.

The Toyota went off the right road shoulder and struck an embankment, police said. Seligmann was not injured. Police verbally warned Seligmann for making a restricted turn.

Lexus Vs Deer

Motorist Suzanne Stawiasz, 43, of 62 Riverside Road was driving a 2002 Lexus RX-300 SUV southward on Toddy Hill Road, near Clearview Drive, about 6:50 pm December 27, when the vehicle collided with a deer, police said. Stawiasz was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Saturn Off Road

Motorist Ronald F. Martens, Jr, 19, of 193 Hanover Road was driving a 1997 Saturn SL-2 sedan southward near 157 Hanover Road about 7 pm December 26 and was test driving the recently purchased vehicle after having worked on its brakes, police said.

Martens applied the brakes and the vehicle veered to the left, went into a skid and then went down an embankment, coming to rest against a tree, police said. Martens wore a seatbelt during the incident and the auto’s air bag deployed, so he was not injured, police said.

Police said that Martens made a restricted turn and was driving an unregistered vehicle.

Multiple Charges

Police report they spotted Ace Young 18, of Brookfield about 2:55 pm on December 30 at 6 Queen Street, after which they investigated.

Police said they arrested Young on charges of possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Also, police said they held a warrant for Young’s arrest stemming from their investigation into a November 5 complaint. Police said they additionally charged Young with third-degree larceny and with five counts of third-degree forgery.

Police said that Young had allegedly illegally taken some checks and had them cashed.

Young was held in the police lockup on $500 bail for arraignment on December 31 at Danbury Superior Court.

Botsford Crash

About 9:15 am December 22, motorist Trina Johnson, 35, of 22 Dusty Lane, who was driving a 2001 Ford Econoline van southward on South Main Street, slowed for a traffic signal at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Alan Dilorenzo, 48, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1996 Buick Regal, then drove into the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Dilorenzo for following too closely.

Scudder Road

Motorist Eric Keogler, no age given, of 10 Partridge Lane was driving a 2001 Honda Accord southward on wet pavement near 22 Scudder Road at about 7:40 pm December 28, when while taking a curve in the road, the vehicle slid, spun around and then struck two trees off the northbound road shoulder, police report.

Keogler was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Mercury Mountaineer

Police report that they stopped motorist Jessica Bengtson, 23, of Danbury on Mt Pleasant Road, near the Bethel town line, about 10:40 pm December 27 to investigate.

Police said they found that the registration on the Mercury Mountaineer SUV that Bengtson was driving was suspended. Police charged her with driving with a suspended registration.

Police released her on a written promise to appear in court on January 12.

Moving Violation

Police said they approached motorist Alexio Vallejo, 22, of Bethel to investigate while he was in a parking lot with his vehicle at 136-A Mt Pleasant Road about 1:09 am December 29.

Police charged Vallejo with driving with a suspended license. Vallejo was released on a written promise to appear January 12 in Danbury Superior Court.

Sandy Hook Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Pole Bridge Road about 2:30 pm December 23.

Motorist Laura Bittman, 18, of 17 Rose Lane was driving a 2004 Dodge Neon sedan southward on Berkshire Road and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Neon was hit from behind by southbound motorist Michael Raymo, 35, of Seymour, who was driving a 2007 Ford Econoline van, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Raymo a written warning for following too closely.

Church Hill Road

Police report a two-vehicle collision near 64 Church Hill Road about 11:15 am on December 24.

The accident involved motorist Jason Trombly, 22, of West Suffield, who was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer SUV, and motorist Erin Tani, 35, of 31 Housatonic Avenue, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Passat sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Trombly for failure to grant the right of way.

South Main Street

At about 12:45 pm on December 29, trucker David Miller 47, of Newington was driving a 1986 International truck northward on South Main Street, as motorist Marie Ambrose, 85, of Venice, Fla., while driving a 1988 Mercedes-Benz 260-E sedan, turned out of the driveway at 99 South Main Street, resulting in a collision, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police issued Ambrose a written warning for making a restricted turn.

DUI Arrest

Police report they stopped motorist Peter Omalyev, 19, of 36 Mt Pleasant Road about 7:40 pm January 1 on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with The Old Road, because the vehicle that Omalyev was driving had a broken headlamp and a broken brakelamp.

Following an investigation, police said they charged Omalyev with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, driving with a broken headlamp, driving with a broken brakelamp, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Omalyev from custody on $400 bail for a January 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Vandalism

Police received a call about 7:46 am on January 3, reporting an incident of mailbox vandalism at 80 Marlin Road. Police discovered that another mailbox at 81 Marlin Road also had been vandalized. Police expect that they mailboxes were damaged sometime between 11:30 pm on January 2 and 7:30 am on January 3. Officer Richard Monckton asks anyone with knowledge of the vandalism to contact him at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Multiple Charges

A local man was charged with eight offenses on the night of January 3, stemming from a domestic dispute, according to police.

Police received a call about 7:18 pm concerning a domestic dispute in progress and responded to the scene at a Riverside Road home.

Police charged Peter Markey, 48, of 59 Riverside Road with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, interfering with police, smoking in a no-smoking area, driving while under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police held Markey on $90,000 bail for an appearance on January 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Danbury Woman

Police said that while on patrol at about 11:38 pm January 1, they stopped motorist Amelia Laurel, 40, of Danbury for a speed violation on Wasserman Way, near Nunnawauk Road.

Laurel provided false information regarding her identity, police said.

After investigating, police charged Laurel with criminal impersonation, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license, and traveling too fast for conditions. Police released her on a written promise to appear on January 15 in Danbury Superior Court.

Bethany Man

About 4:43 pm on January 1 near 34 Church Hill Road, police stopped motorist Patrick White, 22, of Bethany because the vehicle that he was driving lacked a front marker plate.

After investigating, police charged White with failure to display two marker plates and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released him on a written promise to appear January 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

Taunton Lake Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 2:51 pm January 2 near 63 Taunton Lake Road, according to police.

The collision involved motorist Alexandra Clement, 19, of 2 Covered Bridge Road, who was driving a 1991 Honda Accord coupe, and motorist Shaquan Moore, 26, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1999 Acura TL sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Clement for traveling too fast for conditions.

Honda Off Road

Motorist Sofia Morel-Severino, 24, of Bridgeport was driving a 1994 Honda Accord sedan northward on an icy Swamp Road at about 8:34 am December 28, when while negotiating a curve in the road, the auto slid off the pavement, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Morel-Severino for traveling too fast for conditions.

Evading Responsibility

Police report they charged a Sandy Hook man with six offenses following a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Pole Bridge Road and Berkshire Road (Route 34) at about 1:26 pm January 1.

Police said that motorist Kevin Parker, 40, of 29 Alpine Circle, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu, stopped at a stop sign on Pole Bridge Road, at its intersection with Berkshire Road, and was waiting to make a right turn onto Berkshire Road, when a 1994 BMW 325-I sedan, which was driven by Andrew Mormando, 21, of 16 Philo Curtis Road, struck the Chevrolet and then left the area. There were no injuries.

Police said they went to the accident scene and then located Mormando on Church Hill Road, near Commerce Road.

Police arrested Mormando on charges of evading responsibility, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, driving without automotive insurance, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released Mormando on $1,000 bail for a January 19 court appearance.

Lost Control

Motorist Karem Shabrack, 62, of Prospect Park, N.J., who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9 at about 9 am on December 31, lost control of the vehicle on the snow-covered road and struck the highway’s median barrier, state police said.

Shabrack was not injured. State police issued him an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

I-84 Rollover

About 7:41 pm January 3, motorist Eva Rooney, 51, of Goshen, N.Y., who was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, lost control of the vehicle on the snowy/icy road, state police said.

The Chrysler went off the road’s right shoulder, struck a road sign, rolled over and struck several trees, state police said.

Rooney was trapped inside the vehicle and needed to be extricated by Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters.

Rooney was not injured by the crash but was transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance to be checked for exposure to the cold weather, state police said. State police verbally warned her for failure to drive in the established lane.

Debit Card

Police are investigating a case involving the unauthorized use of a debit card owned by a Little Brook Lane resident in which a series of transactions occurred between December 8 and December 28.

The unauthorized fund withdrawals through the illicit use of the debit card amount to a case of third-degree larceny, which is a felony representing the theft of between $1,000 and $5,000, according to police.

Police learned of the situation on December 29. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer John McCluskey, who is investigating.

DUI Warrant

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, James Archer 53, of 60 Flat Swamp Road came to the police station on the evening of January 4 and was charged with driving under the influence and with reckless driving in connection with an October 25 motor vehicle accident.

In that incident, Archer was driving a 2007 Honda Civic southward near 11 Flat Swamp Road at about 4:44 pm on October 25, when while negotiating a curve in the road to the left, he lost control of the auto and drove off the right road shoulder, striking two trees, according to police.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Archer to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries after the October 25 collision, police said.

Police released Archer on $100 bail for a January 19 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police report that motorist John Simpson, 73, of 11 Deerfield Drive was driving a vehicle eastward on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Glen Road, about 12:19 am January 6, when Simpson crossed over the street’s double-yellow lines twice before making a right turn into a parking lot without signaling to do so.

Police said they stopped Simpson to investigate and then charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to signal for a turn.

Police said they held Simpson on $1,000 bail for a January 6 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Incident

Police said that at about 1 am on January 6, they stopped motorist Marc Levine, 54, of Fairfield for crossing over the road’s center lines near 228 South Main Street.

After investigating, police said they charged Levine with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

After processing, police released Levine on $100 bail for a January 19 court appearance.

Evading

At about 9:30 am on December 31 in snowy conditions, motorist Frank Magliocco, 50, of Alberts Hill Road, who was driving a commercial 2006 Chrysler southward near 32 Echo Valley Road, spotted a northbound oil tanker truck approaching, so he attempted to slow the Chrysler, but it went out of control on the snowy road and traveled off the left side of the street, striking a tree and pushing that tree into a stone wall, police said.

The Chrysler did not make contact with another vehicle, police said. Magliocco was not injured.

Police said they later learned of the accident from a resident of 32 Echo Valley Road who found the Chrysler at the end of his driveway without its driver present.

Police said they issued Magliocco a misdemeanor summons on charges of evading responsibility and failure to drive to the right.

Berkshire Road

In snowy conditions about 1:40 pm December 31, motorist Jorge Martinez-Chavarria, 31, of West Haven, who was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant sedan eastward on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Bradley Lane, slowed for traffic conditions, but skidded on the slippery street, police said.

In veering to avoid colliding with another vehicle, Martinez-Chavarria drove across the road and struck a utility pole, creating an electrical outage in the area, police said. Martinez-Chavarria was not injured. Police gave him an infraction for following too closely.

Boggs Hill Crash

During snowy conditions about 1:26 pm December 31, motorist Blake Ashmon Urquhart, 18, of 23 Split Rock Road, who was driving a 2000 Audi A-6 sedan eastward near 117 Boggs Hill Road, lost control of the auto on a curve, went off the side of the road and collided with a utility pole, police said.

Urquhart was not injured. Police issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
