Local Woman Charged With 28 Offenses
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, a local woman turned herself over to police at the police station on the morning of December 29 and was charged with 27 counts of second-degree forgery and one count of second-degree larceny.
Police said they charged Melissa Mason, 46, of 13 Lantern Drive with the 28 offenses. Second-degree forgery is a Class D felony. Second-degree larceny is a Class C felony. Second-degree larceny involves the theft of between $5,000 and $10,000.
Mason allegedly forged checks from her former employer during an 18-month period to obtain money, according to police, who did not disclose the firm at which Mason formerly worked.
Police began an investigation which led to Masonâs arrest after they received an October 20 complaint on her alleged offenses. After investigating, police sought and received a court warrant for her arrest.
After her December 29 arrest, police released Mason on a written promise to appear for arraignment on the charges on January 8 in Danbury Superior Court.
