Parenting In The

Teen Zone

Newtown Youth Services, 41-A Main Street, is set to repeat the popular program “Parenting in the Teen Zone,” beginning on Thursday, January 18. This five-session presentation continues on January 25, February 1, 8, and 15, at 7 pm.

This parenting program deals with the ups and downs, ins and outs, rights and wrongs, and dos and don’ts of living with teens or “tweens.” Our motto is “maintain a sense of humor” as we move through the life span of a teen or almost teen. This program is intended to be an informal, low key, common sense approach to parenting.

Parents will be asked in the first session of “Welcome to the Teen Zone” to think back to when they were 13. Though many situations and aspects of teen life will be different, the similarities may surprise you. “Adolescence: Raising Dr Jeckyl and Ms Hyde,” “Confrontations, Choices, and Consequences,” Sex, Substance,” and “The Sounds of Music” and “We Made It!” are the additional subject areas to be covered.

The goal of “Teen Zone” is to learn what may be ahead for your teens, gather tips on how you can help them, and learn that you are not the only one with questions or concerns. Keep in mind that you do not want to check your sense of humor at the door (there are times it will come in handy).

The cost of the five-week program, including all materials, is $25 per person or $35 per couple. Roseanne Loring, who has two former teenagers, is the facilitator. To register for “Parenting in the Teen Zone” or for additional information, please call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335.
