BOYS 5TH GRADE

 

NEWTOWN 38, CHESHIRE 28: Jared Modzelewski scored 10 points while Michael Maher and Jason Smith chipped in with seven apiece to lead Newtown. Danny Giorno scored the lone Newtown basket in a low-scoring first quarter that initially saw Cheshire in the lead. Greg Rodden and PJ Cochrane led the defense.

MONROE 45, NEWTOWN 28: Kevin Troy scored nine points while Danny Smith and Danny Giorno combined for 10 more in the loss. Matt Boland and Bobby Lapple led the defense.

NEWTOWN 46, FAIRFIELD CATHOLIC 40: Jason Smith scored 10 points while Danny Smith and Danny Giorno had eight points and eight rebounds apiece to lead Newtown to the win. Newtown had to overcome a 24-19 deficit at the half and did so by outscoring Fairfield Catholic 18-9 in the final quarter. Greg Rodden and PJ Cochrane were also key on offense while Matt Boland had a fine floor game. Michael Maher, Jared Modzelewski and Bobby Lapple led the D.

 

BOYS 6TH GRADE

 

BLUE DEVILS 38, WOLCOTT 32: Justin Miller scored six points in the fourth quarter to lead a come-from-behind win over Wolcott. The Blue Devils took the lead in the final minutes of the game behind a full-court press that proved too much for Wolcott to handle. Ryan McGrath led the scoring with 12 points while Kevin Regan added seven. Brian Conroy had five points and 10 rebounds while Tad Pierson, Mike Kennedy and Joe Bowen were strong off the glass.

BLUE DEVILS 57, FAIRFIELD 28: Kevin Regan canned 12 pounds and dragged down eight rebounds as the Blue Devils raced past Fairfield. Tucker Kass and Brian Conroy had eight points apiece while Justin Miller and Joey DeVellis chipped in with seven points apiece. Jack Quinn, Kass and DeVellis keyed the defense and combined for 13 steals.

BOYS 7TH GRADE

 

NEWTOWN 44, BROOKFIELD 39: Marc Ingerman canned 13 points while Stephen Kean and Drew Adamek tossed in nine points apiece to lead Newtown past Brookfield. Tommy Wilson added seven points, all coming late in the game. Kean had six rebounds while Jack Capito, Alex Caruso, and Stephen Neylon had nice floor games. Newtown overcame a three-point barrage by Brookfield in the final minutes.

BOYS 8TH GRADE

 

NEWTOWN 53, WESTON 50: Marcus Tracy scored 13 points and Stephen Lamb added 10 more to lead Newtown to the win. Josh Rouse grabbed 10 rebounds while Kyle Lyddy, Pete Dittmar, and Mike Cash had solid performances.

NEWTOWN 67, EASTON 29: Stephen Lamb poured in 21 points as Newtown rolled past Easton. Brennan Coakley and Josh Rouse combined for 27 points (16 for Coakley and 11 for Rouse). Kevin Quinn, Scott Newberry, Anthony Santella and John Collins all played well.

GIRLS 8TH GRADE

 

NEWTOWN 67, FAIRFIELD-WAKEMAN 63: Katie O’Connor and Siobhan Cooper combined for 21 rebounds in a tough, physical game and helped lead Newtown to an overtime win over previously undefeated Fairfield-Wakeman. Eight different players scored for Newtown, with Jacky Curran leading the way with 17 points. Ashley Larocque tossed in 13 while Meghan Kelley added 11 and Megan LaFlamme and Cooper chipped in with eight apiece. Newtown helped itself at the foul line in this one, canning 21-of-31 shots from the charity stripe (LaFlamme was 5-of-6 while Curran and Larocque were each 5-of-6).

NEWTOWN 46, WESTPORT 16: Newtown ran its record to 11-0 as Courtney Brunton scored 13 points, Emily Nezvesky scored nine, and Jessica Palermo added five. Jackie Ercole and Katie O’Connor stood out on defense and under the boards.
