Wilbur Coy ‘Skip’ Luf

Wilbur Coy Luf, known widely as Skip, age 82, passed away on December 28, 2024 in Portland, Maine.

A lifelong resident of Newtown, Skip was born on January 21, 1942, to Anita Coy and Frederick N. Luf at Danbury Hospital. Skip is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Kiszkiel Luf, and their sons, Keith Luf and wife Marie Lamont, and Douglas Luf and wife Kathleen Gillis; as well as their five grandchildren Max, Linus, Otto, Greta, and Gus. He is also survived by his brother Charles (Chuck) Luf and his wife Gail, and his twin cousins Barbara Chernauskas of Oakville, Conn., and Beverly Quatrano of Fla., as well as many nieces and nephews.

Skip was predeceased by his son Mathew.

Skip was his senior class president at Newtown High School, Class of 1960. He then attended Maine Maritime Academy and graduated from Becker Junior College. He was employed as a production manager at Churchill Business Forms in Newtown for 36 years, followed by several years at Quebecor in Brookfield, until his retirement.

Skip enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening, following the stock market, and cheering on the New York Yankees and the UConn women’s basketball team. He was honored with a Lifetime Membership to Newtown Fish and Game Club. He joined the club at age 16 and served in a variety of leadership roles, including Fish Chairman, for many years. He had a great appreciation for the outdoors, rivaled only by his appreciation for good food. Skip was at his happiest when he was with his family, most especially his grandchildren.

Calling hours for Skip will be held on Thursday, January 9, from 4 to 7 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Mathew N. Luf Memorial Fund c/o Newtown Scholarship Association, PO Box 302, Newtown CT 06470.

Skip was an unwaveringly positive person. His capacity for kindness and love for his community and family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
