Newtown High School’s dance team, coming off South-West Conference Jazz and Hip Hop titles and the State Jazz Category Championship, is ready to get back into the mix this winter.

“Every year we strive to do our best on the competition floor while increasing our routine difficulty. We had a very successful year last year and hope our hard work this year can result in the same success. We lost six seniors last year, but are confident in our rookies and overall roster this year,” Coach Emily Marks said.

“We had a great fall season. This year we got to support our football team from the sidelines, dancing along with the pep band and cheer team. As we move into our winter season we are looking forward to showcasing all that we can do at competitions. This team is a great group of dancers that continually push each other to be the best they can be, and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish,” Marks added.

The dancers may be seen putting their best feet forward during breaks at home basketball games this winter. Behind the scenes, they will be hard at work preparing for late-winter championships.

Dance team captains are seniors Sara Olam and Mackenzie Roszman, as well as junior Alexandra Kinsey.

The rest of the roster comprises seniors Emma Formica, Shirley Acero; juniors Devyn Reilly, Ava Warner, Ashley Schrader, Sofi LaPierre, Lillian Caico, and Lindsay Myer; sophomores Piper Adolfson, Kayla Sinapi, Aquinnah Schmidt, Phoenix Sealey, Kathryn Kavovit, Lila Spencer, Olivia Gulalo, Sienna Guaragno, Sophia Martinez, Kesslyn Alvarez, and Alexa Schmid; along with freshman Ava Geiger. Lindsay Brestovansky, an NHS dance team alum, joins the team as an assistant coach.
