Amy Krompinger is well known as a field hockey coach around town — she runs the Newtown-based AIM Athletes Field Hockey Club year round. And now they know about her playing skills in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Krompinger, of Newtown, and the USA 0-35 Women’s Masters Team earned the silver medal at the Pan American Continental Cup, a tournament that took place in mid December.

Krompinger’s team finished with an impressive record of 3-1-3, falling only to Argentina 2-0 in the championship game. The US team had beaten Argentina 1-0 the day before, becoming the only squad to score against and defeat the eventual winners in this age division.

Playing on the forward line, rotating between center, left, and right, Krompinger was a force with six goals, the highest on the team and second-highest in her age division. In fact, Krompinger was the only player to find the back of the cage against Argentina, scoring with only four minutes remaining, in a 1-0 win. Another highlight for the Newtown representative was a three-goal hat-trick in a 7-0 triumph over Paraguay.

“It was an amazing experience and one I will never forget. My teammates were amazing and I made lifelong friends. I was coached by an Olympian, Stef Fee, and learned so much from her on not only how to play but how to coach. I am excited to bring all that knowledge back to my club team,” Krompinger said.

Krompinger is a Level 2 Field hockey coach with USA Field Hockey and a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. She was previously an Assistant Coach for the Western Connecticut State University field hockey program. She formerly played NCAA Division I field hockey at the University of Connecticut as a defensive player and a participant in the NCAA Final Four.
