Selfless Efforts

To the Editor:

The Selectmen of Newtown.

No, I am not talking about our elected officials be they men or women, but about the many, many volunteers and their organizations which have served us and helped to make Newtown such a great place to live in. Their activities embrace so many areas: The Ladies Garden Club, the Rotarians, the Volunteer Ambulance Association, FISH, Underwater Search And Rescue, the Kevin’s Community Center, the Lions, the Masons, the churches, and especially our volunteer firefighters who not only give of their time, but also risk their lives for us when called to duty as well as others I have probably forgotten to mention.

I think we all owe these folks a great deal of thanks for making our lives more pleasant, safer, and rich. At the New Year in particular I would like to thank all of them for their selfless efforts to improve all of our lives. Why not have a Newtown Volunteer Day for these folks to jointly express our gratitude to all of them.
