Hike, ski, or snowshoe while exploring winter’s natural beauty along the many trails at the Bent of the River Audubon Center in Southbury.

Depending upon the weather, outdoor enthusiasts are invited to spend Sunday, January 9, from 1 to 4 pm, at the Bent in the company of other like-minded nature lovers and Bent staff members who will accompany them to identify the birds and animals that make the Bent their home. The excursion ends at the education barn where participants are invited to warm up next to the wood stove while sipping tea or hot chocolate, and where staff members will also be on hand to answer questions about the 660-acre sanctuary.

Bent of the River wildlife sanctuary is owned and managed by the National Audubon Society. It is home to many species of birds, mammals, butterflies and amphibians, as well as a rich diversity of tree and plant life. The grounds and more than 15 miles of hiking trails are open to visitors seven days a week during daylight hours.

The Audubon Center grounds are open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. Bent of the River is on East Flat Hill Road in South Britain about a half mile from Connecticut Route 172 off of I-84 (Exit 14).
