Occupation: I am in my second term as president of the Town and Country Garden Club, and I have worked as day hostess for eight years at the Inn at Newtown and also when it was the Mary Hawley Inn. My husband and I have owned The Clock Shop at 115 South Main next to the Fireside Inn for four years. I help out with the customers and when not much is happening, I wind all the clocks.

How Long In Newtown: We have lived here for 20 years. Originally, I am from the State of Washington. I have also lived in Montana and New York. We live on Bridge End Farm Lane in Sandy Hook on Lake Zoar near Shady Rest. We have wonderful neighbors.

Biggest Change You Have Seen In Town: I just have to say that people here drive way too fast. In their lives, too, they just do not slow down enough. They are too busy. Despite the growth, I do still love this town. Sometimes though, it feels more like a city.

Family: My husband Ken works for Revlon in New Jersey, so he’s only home on weekends. He used to be with Clairol in Stamford but that company was bought. We have three grown children. Lisa lives in Nashua, N.H., and teaches autistic children. Craig is married and lives in Sandy Hook, and Julie, who lives in New Milford, was just married in July.

Hobbies: Of course, gardening is the big one, but I also love reading and doing crafts. I love watching the sequence of bloom in the spring, and I enjoy everything to do with gardening, even weeding. You have to take the bad with the good. I find keeping the inside plants healthy is a big challenge.

Pets: I have a grand dog that lives with me. He’s Lisa’s but she can’t keep a dog where she lives. She’s part Yorkie and part Chihuahua and her name is Jodie. Then we have our own Yorkie named Bernie.

Favorite Books, TV: Gone With The Wind is my all-time favorite book. I liked The DaVinci Code and as for the conspiracy theme and all those hidden meanings, well I guess you need to keep an open mind.

On television, I watch the reality shows like Amazing Race, and Survivor, but I’m beginning to get bored by them. I enjoy CSI and the History Channel.

Organizations: I belong to the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown.

Cherished Newtown Memories: Watching my kids, Craig and Lisa, play in the Newtown High School marching band was always a thrill, especially during football games and in the Labor Day Parade. I loved seeing them so involved and I loved being involved in what they were doing.

Favorite Vacation Spot: We go to Montana where my parents and two brothers live. I lived there for a while, and I attended a one-room schoolhouse in Proctor, nearby Glacier, during the fourth grade. We have also taken cruises.

Personal Philosophy: People should be kind to one another. I believe that laughter is important. I try to see the good in everyday things, and I know that humor helps keep your spirits up.
