Military Museum On Winter Hours

DANBURY — The Military Museum of Southern New England has switched to its winter hours of operation.

Through March 31, the museum will be open Friday and Saturday from 10 am until 5 pm, and Sunday from noon to 5 pm. Groups can visit the museum during the week, but must make reservations in advance.

Regular admission is $4 for adults, and $2 for ages 6 to 18, senior citizens and all active military personnel.

The museum, started in 1985, is a not for profit organization originally intended to preserve the history of Tank Destroyer history, specifically the 643rd TD Battalion, but has since expanded to include 20th and 21st Century military and home side history.

Current exhibitions include “Unterseeboot,” detailing the history of submarine welfare during World War II including the formation of the German Submarine Artillery and the April 5, 1942 attack on Cape Hatteras, and “The World in Flames: World War II in Retrospect.”

The museum is linked to the “Names on The Wall” program, which helps locate names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The museum is at 125 Park Avenue in Danbury; telephone 790-9277.
