Hovey Appointed GOP Leader Executive And Legislative Nominations Committee

State Representative DebraLee Hovey, R-112th District, has been appointed as the House Ranking Member on the General Assembly’s Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee, House Minority Leader Robert M. Ward, R-86th District, announced this week.

“Representative Hovey served with distinction on three important legislative committees over the past two years,” Rep Ward said. “She did her homework and made significant contributions to the work of the Education, Judiciary, and Housing committees during the 2003 and 2004 legislative sessions. She is one of the hardest-working members of the House Republican caucus and has displayed the kind of leadership qualities that merited her appointment as House Ranking Member on the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee, which is one of the General Assembly’s most important committees.”

“I’d like to thank Bob Ward for appointing me to this leadership position on the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee,” Rep Hovey said. “It is the committee that acts on all of the governor’s and the state legislature’s nominations to state boards and commissions and to leadership positions at state departments and agencies. It’s an honor to be named as the House Republican leader on this committee. I look forward to the challenge of working with my colleagues on the committee to help ensure that only the strongest and best-qualified candidates are appointed to critical positions in state government.”

All nominations for appointments to state boards, commissions, agencies, and departments that require action by the General Assembly (with the exception of judicial nominations and nominations of workers’ compensation commissioners) are referred to the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee before being acted upon by the state Senate and the state House of Representatives
