With nine pins in the championship round, the undefeated Newtown High School wrestling team dominated Norwalk in the championship dual, 62-18, to win the third annual Nighthawk Invitational Duals tournament, on its home mats, December 27. The Nighthawks have won their tournament each year.

In pool play, Newtown beat Joel Barlow of Redding 69-12, Notre Dame-West Haven 74-6, and Branford 52-23. All told, the Nighthawks had 43 individual wins, 30 pins, and only ten match losses.

The following wrestlers all went undefeated at 4-0 in the tourney: Tommy Milligan, Kenna Gioffre, Grayson Renkert, Antonio Argüello, Jake Maddox, Marc Maurath, Fisher Stites, and Jon DaSilva.

Newtown improved to 6-0 in dual matches and has two tournament championships under its belt.

After hosting Weston on Wednesday, the Hawks will compete in the Southland Duals, at Southington High, on Saturday, January 6, starting at 9 am.

Note, in the previous week’s George Bossi Holiday Tournament, Maddox earned five pins, one more than was originally reported.
