Erwin H. Prenzel

Erwin H. Prenzel, 88, of Danbury, died January 2 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elfriede M. (Feibig) Prenzel. Mr Prenzel was born March 17, 1918, in Striegau, Germany, the son of the late Paul and Martha (Giesecke) Prenzel.

Mr Prenzel is survived by two daughters, Margaret E. Trammel and her husband, Michael, of Sandy Hook and Barbara A. Motta and her husband, Robert, of Danbury; a son, Robert E. Prenzel and his wife, Susan, of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Anni Sommer of Delray Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Lauren M. and Nicole E. Motta, and Katherine E. and Aaron M. Trammel; and several nieces and nephews.

He was educated in Germany, and served in the German armed forces during World War II.

In 1952, he emigrated to the United States, and has been a resident of Danbury since 1953.

A carpenter by trade, Mr Prenzel was employed with the Morgante Construction Company for many years, retiring in 1981, and was a longtime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danbury. He also was an active member of the Arion Singing Society, and became a naturalized US citizen in 1997.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Monday, January 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, at 11 am with the Rev Walter Harper, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dreaming God’s Dream Building Fund at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 18 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury CT 06810.
