A Big Day For Tots
A Big Day
For Tots
To the Editor:
It was the perfect day on December 9, 2006! The weather cooperated for the sixth annual âStuff a Cop Car with Toys for Tots.â This year we collected a record-breaking over 1,500 toys at the KB Toy store at Sand Hill Plaza! (Which was just in the nick of time according to the reps from Toys for Tots. The toys had been running low throughout the state.) But, Newtown came through again! Many generous people both young and old stopped by with toy donations for a great cause! Because of all of your generosity, many children woke up during these past holidays to a toy they never would have received!
The many Newtown Police Officers that volunteered their time that day enjoyed the kind words of encouragement that you all had to offer. We had so many toys that they had to send out for the Marines to bring a box truck!
Our âChristmas Angelâ once again donated over $3,000 worth of toys to the cause. Our angel put a huge smile on the police officers faces when we were told that it would be us who would shop for the toys for the children with the donation! What an unforgettable and wonderful gift that angel gave to the children and the officers alike!
Among just a few of the many others who donated toys were the many stores in the Sand Hill Shopping Plaza, including Just A Buck, Payless Shoe Store, Radio Shack, Joyâs Hallmark, and the new plaza addition Panera Bread. Also, a special thanks to Holmes Fine Gardens and staff of Dan Holmes, David Athans, and Holly Broderick. Thanks to everyone for their kindness and generosity that day!
Thanks again on behalf of the Newtown police officers and the children who will never know you, all but will remember and sincerely appreciate your generosity!
Sincerely,
Officer Maryhelen McCarthy
