Performing Artists Sought For New Haven Showcase
NEW HAVEN â organizers of The International Festival of Arts & Ideas, Connecticutâs premier showcase of the performing arts, the visual arts and the exploration of ideas, invites all Connecticut-based performing artists, poets and dance/theater groups to apply to perform at the 2001 Festival.
This yearâs festival will take place Thursday, June 14, through Saturday, June 30, in and around downtown New Haven. Applications, available from the festival, must be submitted with work samples (audio or video tapes) by February 15.
The 2001 festival offers Connecticut artists three major performance opportunities: 20 lunchtime and early evening concerts scheduled weekdays on the green (June 18-22 and June 25-29); venues for music, dance, family theatre, storytellers and performance artists on one weekend of family programming (June 16-17); and a poetry series (June 22-23).
A jury of regional artists and arts activists will select the performers. Applicants will be notified of the juryâs decision my mid-March. Selected artists will be invited to perform one set (running time 15-60 minutes) and will be paid a small fee.
The festival will provide a sound system, stage crew and marketing for all presentations. Please note: performers at the 2000 festival are disqualified from appearing the next year (2001).
Artistsâ applications can be picked up at the festival office at 195 Church Street, New Haven, CT 06510; requested by telephone, 203/498-1212; or transmitted by email â send a request to community.programs@snet.net.
