New Zenith Theatre To Host Auditions For ‘Wrinkle In Time’

WATERBURY — The New Zenith Theatre for Young Audiences at Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) will be holding auditions for the Newbery Award Winner, A Wrinkle in Time, based on the book by Connecticut author Madeleine L’Engle.

Auditions will be Thursday, January 18, from 7 to 10 pm, and Saturday, January 20, from noon to 4 pm. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, January 22, and performances are slated for several dates in March.

Combining theology, fantasy and science, A Wrinkle in Time is a story of travel through space and time to battle cosmic evil. With their neighbor Calvin O’Keefe, young Meg Murry and her brother, Charles Wallace, embark on a cosmic journey to find their lost father, a scientist studying time travel.

Assisted by three eccentric women – Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who and Mrs Which – the children travel to the planet Camazotz, where they encounter a repressed society controlled by IT, a disembodied brain that represents evil.

Among the themes of Ms L’Engle’s story are the dangers of unthinking conformity and scientific irresponsibility and the saving power of love.

The New Zenith Theatre is staffed by members of the NVCC art faculty along with area theatre professionals. To make an appointment to audition, call 203/575-8038.
