Bad Check

Police said they charged Karen E. O’Bernier, 34, of Wolcott on a warrant at the Southington police station January 4 on a charge of issuing a bad check. The charge stems from a bad check that O’Bernier allegedly issued to Avance Esthetiques, a day spa at Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street, police said.

After processing, police released O’Bernier on a promise to appear January 18 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

Car Into Rails

State police report an accident in which a compact German-built auto struck guard railing alongside Interstate 84 about 4:17 pm January 2.

 State police said motorist Rebekkah L. Nagol, 20, of Exeter, N.H., was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Golf in the left lane of two lanes on eastbound I-84, west of Exit 9, when she lost control of the auto and collided with some guard railing along the right road shoulder.

Nagol was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash and was not injured, state police said.

State police issued her a written warning for driving too fast for conditions.

Minivan Hits Tree

Police report motorist Anthony B. Corleto, 41, of Danbury was driving a 1998 Chrysler Town & Country minivan northbound on Boggs Hill Road, and approaching its intersection with Willowbrook Lane about 11:10 pm January 5, when the minivan slid off the road, went down an embankment, and struck a tree.

Mr Corleto was not injured. Police verbally warned him for making an improper turn.

 

Beetle Into Bushes

Police said motorist Allison J. Zitnay, 39, of Bethlehem was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle northbound on South Main Street, and then turned right onto Button Shop Road, where she skidded across the snowy road, went into a snow bank, and struck some trees at about 4:50 pm January 5.

Saab Slides

Motorist Lenora W. Kirkley, 43, of Ridgefield was driving a 1999 Saab sedan southbound on Queen Street about 4 pm January 5, when a vehicle which was traveling in front of her made a right turn into a driveway, police said.

Ms Kirkley applied the Saab’s brakes to avoid striking the turning vehicle, but went into a skid on the snow-covered street and left the road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Kirkley a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Infiniti Vs Nissan

Police report motorist Lara N. Carpenter, 33, of 38 Greenleaf Farms, who was driving a 1998 Infiniti QX-4 sport-utility vehicle, turned left out of the Lexington Gardens driveway on Church Hill Road about 5:40 pm January 5 and skidded into a 1996 Nissan 200-SX driven by Thomas R. Morse, 62, of Bethel.

Police verbally warned Carpenter for failure to grant the right of way.

SUV Vs Van

Police report an accident about 6:15 pm January 5 at the intersection of Taunton Lane and Mt Pleasant Road in Hawleyville.

Police said motorist Douglas H. Lutz, 35, of 8 Taunton Lake Road was driving a 1994 Isuzu Trooper northbound on Taunton Lane and attempted to stop at a stop sign at its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, but could not stop due to snowy, icy conditions. The Isuzu skidded into the path of an oncoming eastbound 1984 GMC van being driven on Mt Pleasant Road by Paul G. Zibell, 47, of Sherman, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Lutz for a stop sign violation.

 

Old Bethel Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Old Bethel Road in Hawleyville about 2 pm January 6.

Police said motorist Peggy Westphal, 72, of 18 Old Bethel Road, who was driving a 1992 Jeep Cherokee, was leaving her driveway and entering the road’s westbound lane when she was struck by a westbound 1992 Nissan pickup truck driven by James D. Wilson, 46, of Bethel.

There were no injuries. Police issued Westphal a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.

Toddy Hill Road

Police report an accident between an auto and a van on Toddy Hill Road about 5:30 pm January 5.

Police said motorist Kevin Fitzgerald, 40, of 21 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 1995 Dodge van northbound, had to stop moving to avoid a vehicle which had slid off the road.

Northbound motorist Liza Y. Britton, 29, of Watertown, who was driving a 1998 Honda Accord, was unable to stop and struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Britton a written warning for following too closely.

Church Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 5:30 pm January 5 on Church Hill Road, near Main Street.

Police said eastbound motorist Priscilla D. Hennessey, 46, of Roxbury, who was driving a 1988 Ford Escort, slowed for traffic and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Jeffrey P. Barczak, 21, of 21 Grand Place, who was driving a 1994 Ford Taurus. Police said Barczak could not stop in time due to snow and slush on the road. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Barczak for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Four Charges

Police said they charged a local woman with four violations about noon January 9 after an incident at Brooks Pharmacy on Queen Street.

Police said Melissa Mason, 37, of 49 Spring Trail allegedly attempted to falsely prescribe and purchase prescription medication at the drug store.

After learning of the incident, police located Ms Mason in the parking lot of the Shell gas station on Church Hill Road.

Police charged Ms Mason with fraudulently attempting to obtain a controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle without automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Ms Mason on a promise to appear January 25 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Shoplifting Charge

Police said Super Stop & Shop store security personnel apprehended Drama Ferris, 37, of Brushy Hill Road attempting to steal more than $200 worth of baby formula from the South Main Street supermarket about 1 pm January 9.  Police charged Ms Ferris with sixth-degree larceny. After processing, she was released for a January 25 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Route 302 Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Route 302 about 6:30 pm January 8.

Police said motorist Paulo C. Madras, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 GMC Jimmy, slowed down to avoids a vehicle which had slid off the road. When the GMC stopped, it was struck from behind by a 1995 Plymouth Neon driven by Lucille J. Pezzulo, 19, of 36 Rock Ridge Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Ms Pezullo a written warning for following too closely.
