Fairfield Hills Master Plan Review Committee Sets Public Meetings
In July 2018, the Board of Selectmen created a Fairfield Hills Master Plan Review Committee, as required by the current master plan. Since then, the committee has been learning about the history and current status of the property and has begun a set of discussions to understand current and potential future uses for the property. These discussions are intended to provide context to the committee members both to help guide the subsequent public engagement efforts expected in the spring of 2019 and to ensure that past and current experiences and learnings are a part of the final deliberation process. Detailed minutes of these meetings are available on the town website, newtown-ct.gov.
In January, the committee will be focusing on private sector uses, including commercial, mixed use (housing over commercial), and housing. On Wednesday, January 9, the committee will host a discussion about these uses with two local developers and a commercial real estate expert. This meeting will have time for public input both before and after the discussion. On Tuesday, January 22, the committee will host a public conversation where the public is invited to discuss their current thoughts about potential private sector uses as well as town services and recreational uses for the campus. Both meetings start at 7 pm at the Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road. Full agendas will be available on the town website. If you want to join the conversation, attend one or both of the meetings or send e-mail to debz.newtown.ct@gmail.com.
