Former Charter Revision Committee Chairperson
William Sheluck, Jr, of Newtown died at home surrounded by his loving family on December 29 after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrigâs disease). Mr Sheluck was born in New York City to Molly Rich and William Sheluck, who predeceased him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Amy Winterroth and devoted daughters Molly, Emily, and Aileen of Newtown, Lorraine Macko and her husband, Gary, of Memphis, and Lynn Brown and her husband, Alan, of Ontario, Canada. He was the cherished grandfather of Cameron, Graham, and Morgan Macko, and Alexandra and Chloe Brown.
He was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and Columbia University, and attended New York University Graduate School of Business. Since 1993, Mr Sheluck was a member of the Board of Directors of Barnes & Noble, Inc, and was currently lead director and co-chair of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee. He was the retired president and chief executive officer of Nationar, a New York chartered private commercial bank.
Mr Sheluck served as chairman for the Charter Revision Committee that created the finance board in Newtown in 2001. He was the Republican candidate for first selectman in Newtown in 2003.
Those who knew him will sorely miss his sense of humor, intelligence, kindheartedness, and companionship.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Rose of Lima Church on Friday, January 4, at 11 am. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, January 3, from 5 to 8 pm, at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, and Danbury.
