Singing For The Season

‘Twas the Saturday before Christmas and all through the shop, hairstylists listened until the caroling stopped…

Overpowering the aromas of hair gels and noise of hair dryers were the resonant sounds of voices joined in the Smooth Blend Barber Shop Quartet as Fred Cote, Don Hauser, Ron Knight, and Ray Williams sang with a mix of gentle tenors and heavier bass notes for the enjoyment of customers at the South Main Street a few weekends ago. The quartet members — some singing for more than 30 years — added their holiday spirit to atmosphere where customers sat down for a quick cut and style in time for a holiday party.

Bringing back melodies of an old-fashioned Christmas, their a cappella notes were a serenade for the stylists and shop owner Dan Riccio, who stood with his employees listening to the refrain, “let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…”
