Library Database Targets Teen Health

The Young Adult Department at C.H. Booth Library has added a new database to its resources, Teen Health & Wellness: Real Life, Real Answers, which can be accessed directly at biblio.org/yawebspot or chboothlibrary.org both at home and in the library. The comprehensive database is a user-friendly research and report tool, as well as a self-help resource for teenagers. The content from Rosen Publishing, a well-known name in guidance resources for more than 50 years, is available online for the first time in this database.

All content in Teen Health & Wellness is geared toward the concerns of teens, keeping their perspective in mind. Information throughout is presented using respectful and age-appropriate articles that make complex topics understandable.

Teen Health & Wellness provides comprehensive curricular support. Developed with a team of experienced health and wellness writers, educators, librarians, and expert reviewers, it contains critical information for research and reports, and is closely aligned to curriculum standards.

The database is for educational purposes only and cannot provide health and wellness advice or send a personal reply to health-related questions. If teens have a question on a health or wellness issue, they are strongly encouraged to speak to a qualified medical professional or a trusted adult, such as a parent, teacher, or guidance counselor.

All content is thoroughly revised and updated for online use, and is reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis by a team of leading professionals in the medical, mental health, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, guidance, and career counseling fields. It is accessible to all users, including persons with disabilities. In addition, all content strives to be inclusive in terms of race, sex, religion, economic status, and other teen experiences.

Newtown teenagers and parents are invited to explore the site on-line and view the display in the library. For more information about the database, contact young adult librarian Margaret Brown at 426-4533.
