Introduction To Ice Fishing

DERBY — The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) invites fishing enthusiasts of all ages to the Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Avenue, on Saturday, January 5, for a free “Introduction to Ice Fishing” workshop.

Families and individuals invited to the indoor class from 2 to 4 pm in preparation for some wintry days of fishing. Children under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult in order to attend the class.

Volunteers from the Connecticut Aquatic Recreation Education (CARE) program will be on hand to lead both experienced and novice individuals through the tools, techniques and laws for ice fishing in Connecticut. Instruction will include winter safety for water and cold weather to ensure everyone is prepared in the outdoors.

Weather permitting a demonstration of hold preparation and set up will also be included. Ice or not, the class will be held and participants will receive angler guides and other materials that will help them enjoy fishing year-round.

Hot chocolate will be provided.

This program is free to the public. Registration is required.
