Gadget Gone

Police report that someone stole a black iPod music player with a touch screen, which was enclosed in a black leather case, from inside a student gym locker at Newtown High School. Police said they learned of the theft on December 19. The crime involved is fifth-degree larceny, representing the theft of items worth more than $250. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact Officer John McCluskey at 426-5841.

Six Charges

Police report that they stopped motorist Justin Gaynor, 20, of 150 Head O’ Meadow Road on Appleblossom Lane on the night of January 1 because the vehicle Gaynor was driving had headlamp and taillamp violations.

After investigating, police charged Gaynor with failure to have a working headlamp, failure to have working taillamps, driving with a suspended license, possession of narcotics, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they held Gaynor on $1,000 bail for a January 2 court arraignment on the charges.

Evading

Police said that on the afternoon of December 31, they charged Zlata Dedic, 24, of 4 Buck Trail with evading responsibility.

The charge stems from an incident at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street in which Dedic, while driving a vehicle, allegedly struck a parked vehicle and then drove off, police said. A witness to the incident provided information that led to the charge being lodged, police said.

Police released Dedic on a written promise to appear in court on January 15.

Big Y

Police said they received a call from store security staff at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street on the night of December 29 concerning a shoplifting incident.

Police said they went to the scene to investigate and then charged Morgan Roberts, 37, of 6 Dogwood Terrace with sixth-degree larceny for allegedly shoplifting about $30 worth of merchandise at the store.

Police released Roberts on a written promise to appear in court on January 15.

Icy Road

While driving a 2000 Ford Explorer northward near 55 Toddy Hill Road about 6:30 am December 28, motorist Samantha Novia, 21, of 56 Botsford Hill Road encountered an icy area, police report.

 Novia braked, but the Ford went out of control, climbed an embankment and then struck a utility pole, dislodging and splitting the pole, police aid.

Novia was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

SUV Off Road

About 10:12 pm December 30, motorist Marcela Campo-Libreros, 18, of New Milford was driving a 2006 Toyota RAV-4 eastward near 146 Currituck Road, when while making a curve in the road, the vehicle went out of control, went off the westbound road shoulder and then struck a mailbox and some rocks, police said.

Campo-Libreros was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Saturn Vs Deer

Motorist Jose Cruz Monteiro, 57, of Danbury was driving a 2007 Saturn station wagon northward near 121 Hattertown Road about 5:30 pm on January 1, when a deer entered the road, collided with the vehicle and then ran off into the woods, police said. Monteiro was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

BMW Accident

Police report that motorist Anthony Santella, 21, of 12 Yearling Lane was driving a 1992 BMW 325-I sedan northward on Hanover Road, near its intersection with The Boulevard, about 12:05 am December 28, when a deer ran onto the street.

Santella steered to the left to avoid a collision, but the auto went out of control, went off the southbound road shoulder and traveled down an embankment, striking a small tree, police said. Santella was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

DUI Charge

Police report they spotted motorist Patricia McDonald, 43, of 22 Taunton Ridge Road driving a SUV that was moving erratically northward on South Main Street, near Sugar Street, early on the morning of January 1, so they stopped the vehicle to investigate.

Police said they charged McDonald with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to have automotive insurance. After she posted $100 bail, police released McDonald for a January 15 court appearance.
