Eight Artists In WAA’s Young Talent Show

WASHINGTON DEPOT — Washington Art Association is committed to the development of talented young artists. Each year WAA holds a show open only to young artists from across the United States. The 2005 Young Talent Show, which is now on view, includes eight dynamic young artists.

Michael Alberetti’s exploration of mark making and printmaking techniques has been fueled by his experiences of intense thunderstorms. His latest work is “Storm Series.”

Catherine Balco’s energetic brushwork and enthusiastic exploration with oil paint reflect her delight in the jauntiness of man-made neighborhoods.

Steven Budington is exploring the transformation of objects (sometimes banal) often by painting the subject over and over. A particular area in his focus is the relationship between building of a painting and building (metaphorically) a text or language.

Jason Buening’s use of color and what he calls a “modern Medieval space” creates works that appear compressed, stylized and often contain an intriguing sense of perspective.

Sculptor Dana Fillbert develops a parallel between biological and mechanical function, with the most recent pieces manifesting aspects of blind obsession as related to the auto industry.

Trent Miller reflects that “beautiful piece of heartache” is a phrase that describes what he seeks to make present in his paintings.

Erin Raedeke works from nature as a vital pathway to discovering a common language between other artists, past and present, as well as individuals of varying backgrounds.

Jacqueline Sweeney first creates a piece then captures it digitally. Her images have a surreal quality; they are both unknown and extremely familiar.

The show will remain on view until January 30.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, noon to 5 pm. The gallery, located in Bryan Plaza on Route 47, can be reached at 860-868-2878.
