Newtown students looking for money to go to college this fall can turn to their local McDonaldâs restaurant for help. New York tri-state McDonaldâs Restaurant Owners and Ronald McDonald House Charities are making available more than $425,000 in scholarships to local high school students through the Arching into Education⢠and RMHC®/HACER® Scholarship Programs. Applications are available beginning January 12, 2000 through high school guidance counselor departments or through McDonaldâs New York Tri-State Web site, www.mcdonaldsnymetro.com. The deadline is March 1, 2000.
âEducation builds strong adults, strong families and strong communities. Because McDonaldâs restaurants are a vital part of every community, itâs our responsibility to provide educational opportunities to the young adults in our neighborhoods,â said Paul Cottrell, chairman of the Education Subcommittee, McDonaldâs New York Tri-State Owners and Operators.
The Arching into Education Scholarship Program offers four scholarship opportunities for local students. New York Tri-State high school seniors pursuing post-secondary education can apply for either the McDonaldâs® Golden Arches® Scholarships or the McDonaldâs® African American Heritage Scholarships. The McDonaldâs® United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Tri-State Scholarships are available to eligible Tri-State students planning to attend a UNCF institution. Local students planning to pursue an education in music can apply for the McDonaldâs® GospelFest® Music Scholarhips.
The RMHC/HACER Scholarship Program offers scholarships to Hispanic Tri-State high school seniors. Since the programâs inception in the New York Tri-State area, RMHC/HACER has awarded $1 million in scholarships to over 600 local students.
In addition, the Black McDonaldâs Owner/Operator Association (BMOA) will make available $40,000 in grants for African American students in the New York Tri-State area.
As part of local McDonaldâs restaurantsâ commitment to its employees, a minimum of twenty percent of all scholarships will be set aside for New York Tri-State McDonaldâs restaurant employees.
All Arching Into Education and RHHC/HACER scholarship recipients will be selected by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Citizensâ Scholarship Foundation of America, Inc (CSFA). CFSA is an independent, national non-profit educational support and student aid service organization.
The Arching Into Education Program, now in its second year, is one of many education initiatives of New York Tri-State McDonaldâs Owners and Operators. Other McDonaldâs community education programs include bike helmet safety, fire safety and reading programs for young children.
