Hit Gate In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Kelly Burger, 42, of Sandy Hook, was traveling northbound in the back parking lot of Hawley School, 29 Church Hill Road at 3:36 pm December 21. Burger turned left into the back parking lot through a gate. Her rear driver's side struck the fence post of the gate.
Burger's vehicle was towed to Sugar Hill Garage due to disabling damage.
No injuries were reported. No enforcement action was taken.
Passing On The Right
Newtown Police report Gloria Cardenas, 26, of Bridgeport, operating a 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude, was traveling northbound on Main Street at 9:06 am December 22. Alexanna Jacobsen, 25, of Danbury, operating a 2020 Hyundai Kona Sei, was traveling southbound on Main Street and stopped to make a left hand turn onto Church Hill Road. Cardenas attempted to pass on the right and struck the back passenger side of Jacobsen's vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Cardenas was given a verbal warning for passing on the right.
Hit Pole Avoiding Deer
Newtown Police report Tina Halpin, 33, of Ansonia, operating a 2019 Toyota Highlander, was traveling southbound on Mt Nebo Road, north of Ox Hill Road, at 9:43 am December 23. Halpin said that a deer crossed the road in front of her vehicle and she steered to the right to avoid hitting the animal. The front right corner of her vehicle struck a utility pool.
No injuries were reported. No enforcement action was taken.
Parked Vehicle Hit
Newtown Police report that a 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn owned by John Callahan IV of Sandy Hook was parked at the front end of the parking lot at 6 Queen Street, in front of the Big Y on December 24. Callahan arrived at 2:30 pm and when he returned to his vehicle at 3 pm, he discovered damage to the rear passenger's side of his vehicle. White paint was observed on the side of the vehicle, consistent with a crash.
No vehicle parked nearby had matching damage. There were no witnesses or security camera footage.
