Unlicensed Driver In Crash
Newtown Police report Douglas Alves, 25, of Bridgeport, operating a 2000 Toyota Camry, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 7:45 am December 10. He was traveling behind a 2016 GMC Canyon operated by Anthony Buzzeo, 51, of Trumbull. Buzzeo slowed for traffic and Alves’ vehicle struck the rear of Buzzeo’s vehicle.
Police say Buzzeo was transported to Danbury Hospital with suspected injuries. Alves’ vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.
Alves was issued an infraction for following too closely and operating without a license.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Maria Febles, 48, of Bridgeport, operating a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, was traveling southbound on Dinglebrook Lane at 5:20 pm December 11. While negotiating a left curve in the roadway, Febles lost control of her vehicle on the snow covered roadway and went over a curb along the shoulder.
Police say Febles was transported to Danbury Hospital with reported dizziness. Her vehicle was towed.
Febles was given a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Hit Mailbox And Tree
Newtown Police report Makayla Romano, 23, of Westport, operating a 2006 Nissan Maxima, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 10:34 pm December 15, when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, striking a mailbox. Romano’s vehicle continued across a driveway and then struck a tree, finally coming to rest in an embankment.
No injuries were reported. Romano’s vehicle was towed.
Romano received a misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and making an improper turn.
Off Road Into Tree
Newtown Police report Jason Morneault, 29, of Colebrook, operating a 2011 GMC Sierra, was traveling southbound on High Rock Road at 5:41 pm December 16, when the vehicle went off the right of the roadway, striking a tree.
Police say Morneault was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment. The vehicle was towed.
Morneault was given a misdemeanor summons for making an improper turn, operating with a suspended registration, and driving with no insurance.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Shelby Leone-Garofalo, 24, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer, was traveling on Berkshire Road and attempting to turn left onto Bradley Lane at 10:52 am December 19. Michael Rodrigues, 40, of Sandy Hook, was stopped on Bradley Lane at the intersection of Berkshire Road.
While turning, police say the driver’s side rear area of Leone-Garofalo’s vehicle struck the driver’s side front bumper of Rodrigues’ vehicle, causing minor damage to both vehicles.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Leone-Garofalo was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.
Struck Parked Car
Newtown Police report Dina Jernigan, 62, of Newtown, operating a 2007 Honda CRV, was traveling westbound in the parking lot of 3 Commerce Road at 10:17 am December 20. An unoccupied vehicle owned by Ernest Morgan of Newtown was parked in a designated parking spot facing south. Police say Jernigan attempted to make a left turn into a parking space next to Morgan’s vehicle and the left front bumper of her vehicle struck the left front bumper of Morgan’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Improper Passing
Newtown Police report Jennifer Finefrock, 51, of Lancaster, Penn., operating a 2021 Toyota Highlander, was traveling southbound on Glen Road at 3:03 pm December 20. She was traveling behind a 2010 Ford Taurus operated by Salvatore Scianna, 74, of Boynton Beach, Fla. Police say Scianna entered the intersection of Glen Road and Washington Avenue, and was waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn onto Riverside Road. As traffic cleared and Scianna began to turn left, Finefrock attempted to pass on the left side and struck his vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Finefrock was given a verbal warning for improper passing.
Tried To Pass In Intersection
Newtown Police report Anton Vilardi, 51, of Greenwich, operating a 2019 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road at 5:40 pm December 20. He was traveling behind a 2021 Peterbilt AA operated by Franklyn Bonilla, 46, of Southington. Bonilla made a right turn onto Hattertown Road, and then Vilardi made a right turn onto Hattertown Road, crossing the center line to go around Bonilla. Police say while re-entering the proper traveling lane, Vilardi’s vehicle struck the front driver’s side front tire and bumper of Bonilla’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Vilardi was issued an infraction for improper passing and verbally warned about not carrying an up-to-date insurance card in the vehicle.
Collided With Utility Pole
Newtown Police report Donald Butler, 63, of Botsford, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:12 pm December 20. He was traveling behind a 2012 Honda Accord operated by Taryn Pickwick, 37, of Woodbury. Pickwick came to a stop in the southbound lane, waiting to turn left into Highland Plaza. Butler did not stop before the front section of his vehicle made contact with the rear of Pickwick’s vehicle. Police say Pickwick’s vehicle was pushed forward and came to a stop on the southbound shoulder of South Main Street, while Butler’s vehicle continued on and struck a utility pole, causing it to crack in half.
Both drivers were treated and released at the scene.
Butler was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and traveling an unreasonable distance apart. He was also issued an infraction for failure to have minimum insurance and operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration.
Hit Deer
Newtown Police report Harun Kodzodziku, 44, of Newtown, operating a 2012 BMW 528xi, was traveling eastbound on Birch Hill Road at 7:08 pm December 22 when a deer jumped out of the woods and in front of Kodzodziku’s vehicle. Kodzodziku struck the deer, which then ran back into the woods.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
