Two Generations Of Artists
On Monday, January 5, a father-daughter exhibit will open in The Olga Knoepke Memorial Room at C.H. Booth Library Newtown.
âTwo Generations of Artistsâ will present quilts by Newtown resident Mary Eddy, and dry brush paintings by her father, Benjamin Palagonia.
Ms Eddy, who is also well known as The Jelly Bean Quilter, has been quilting for other for over ten years. An award-winning long arm quilter, she has authored five freehand pattern books for both the long arm quilter and home quilters. She has also published a growing selection of pantograph patterns based on designs from her books.
Her work has been exhibited in several galleries including The Silo in New Milford. She teaches hands-on classes for beginners as well as seasoned veterans in her home studio.
Ben Palagonia was born in New York City, where he later attended the School of Industrial Art and Pratt Institute. He majored in architecture and subsequently worked with a number of architects including Ludwig Mes Van der Rohe and Eric Mendelsohn of the Bauhaus School.
Mr Palagoniaâs drawings and paintings have earned recognition and commissions from corporate institutions as well as those in the advertising field, which led to him becoming a freelance architectural renderer in 1968.
His most prestigious rendering projects including a birdâs-eye view of downtown Los Angeles for the Trans-Pacific Corporation, a birdâs-eye view of downtown Detroit for The Detroit News, Raytheon Corporationâs âHouse of the 21st Century,â and his annual composite rendering of each yearâs construction for Turner Construction Co., from 1968 to the present.
Mr Palagonia, who lives with his wife Barbara in Sherman, has also painted and designed graphic murals for HUD projects, The Miltope, and Pepsi Corporation.
An opening reception for âTwo Generations of Artistsâ will be held on Sunday, January 11, from 2 to 4 pm.
