Swamp Road

Police report a motor vehicle accident that occurred during snowy, slippery conditions about 12:30 pm December 19 near 39 Swamp Road.

Motorist Darren Toth, 40, of Shelton, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup northward on Swamp Road, told police that he encountered a snowplow truck that was stopped in the middle of the road, after which Toth turned toward the right to avoid a collision, but he lost control of the Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet then went off the right road shoulder, struck a utility pole and then hit a tree, police said.

Police said the snowplow truck left the scene before they arrived there.

Toth was not injured. Police said they verbally warned Toth for making a restricted turn.

Botsford Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the hazardous intersection of Botsford Hill Road and High Bridge Road about 10:30 am December 22.

Motorist Thomas Sorge, 45, of Pound Ridge, N.Y., was driving a 2001 Saab 9-3 sedan westward on High Bridge Road and was approaching its intersection with Botsford Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Diego Benavides, 24, of New Haven was driving a 1995 Ford Probe coupe northward on Botsford Hill Road and was approaching the same intersection, according to police.

The Saab then attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Botsford Hill Road, but collided with the Ford, police added.

There were no injuries. Police issued Sorge an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign. Police issued Benavides an infraction for driving without a license.

Hazardous Intersection

Police report a two-car accident at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street, Meadow Brook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 11 am on December 22.

Motorist Jane Real, 46, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2005 Audi A-6 sedan southward on South Main Street, stopped for a red traffic signal at the intersection, police said.

Southbound motorist Mary Pintek, 75, of Monroe, who was driving a 2007 Ford Focus sedan behind the Audi, then slowed and attempted to maneuver to the left side of the Audi in preparing to make a left turn onto Botsford Hill Road, police said.

But in making that maneuver, the Ford struck the Audi, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued Pintek a written warning for making an improper turn.

Slippery Road

About 1:15 pm December 20, motorist Jose Lebron, 66, of 7 Camelot Crest was driving a 2001 Ford SRW pickup truck southward near 16 Great Ring Road when he lost control of the vehicle due to snow on the road, police said.

The truck went off the left road shoulder and struck a utility pole, damaging the pole, police said.

Lebron was not injured. Police issued Lebron a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

SUV Mishap

Motorist Fabricio Carvalho, 25, of 23 Park Lane, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe eastward near 9 Park Lane about 2:20 pm December 20, told police he encountered a westbound snowplow truck on the street.

 Carvalho then attempted to move toward the eastbound road shoulder, but the vehicle went off the road, after which it struck a tree and a guy wire for a utility pole, police said.

Carvalho was not injured. Police verbally warned him for making a restricted turn.

DUI Arrest

Police said that motorist Christopher Jurman, 42, of 39 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee westward on Button Shop Road about 5:35 pm December 24, struck the rear end of a 2005 Toyota sedan driven by Nanci Chesler, 31, of Millville, N.J., which was stopped at a stop sign on Button Shop Road at its intersection with South Main Street.

After investigating, police said they arrested Jurman on charges of driving under the influence and following too closely. Police said they released Jurman on $50 bail for a January 7 court appearance.

Four MV Charges

At about 9:30 pm December 22, police stopped motorist Rosalba Santiago, 45, of Derby to investigate on Berkshire Road, near Johnny Appleseed Drive.

Police said they charged Santiago with failure to display a front marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, misuse of marker plates, and driving while under suspension.

Police released Santiago on $50 bail for a January 6 court appearance.

Sandy Hook Collision

About 8:30 am December 23, motorist Nicole Kearney, 23, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1999 Honda Accord sedan, was making a left turn from the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 onto westbound Wasserman Way, police report.

Motorist Jennifer Norden, 31, of Middlebury, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler, was making the same left turn behind the Honda, police said.

The Honda then stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by the Jeep, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Norden for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Police said they learned of the accident more than six hours after it occurred.

Truck Vs SUV

Truck driver Attila Zoltan, 36, of Detroit, Mich., who was driving a 1998 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck northward on Berkshire Road on December 23, attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Wasserman Way, but in making the maneuver, the truck’s trailer struck a 2004 Lexus GX-470-A SUV driven by Pamela Sherman, 50, of 30 Juniper Road, which was waiting for a red traffic signal on eastbound Wasserman Way, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Zoltan an infraction for making a restricted turn. Police said Sherman was driving an unregistered vehicle.

Warrants

State police said Newtown police assisted them early on the morning of December 27 in serving arrest warrants against Jesse Roche, 27, of 72 Taunton Hill Road.

State police said that the charges against Roche include second-degree failure to appear in court and failure to respond to an infraction.

Roche was released on approximately $350 bail for a January 12 court appearance, state police said.

I-84 Incident

State police said they stopped motorist David Mullins, 52, of Liberty, Texas, for a motor vehicle violation on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 9 pm December 16, after which they investigated.

State police said Mullins failed field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and with possession of marijuana.

State police released Mullins on $1,000 bail for a December 29 court appearance.
