Helen Kowats

Helen (Domonkos) Kowats, 85, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late John S. Kowats, who predeceased his wife on November 6, died on December 27 in Bridgeport Manor, Bridgeport.

Born in North Tonawanda, N.Y., Mrs Kowats had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. A 1938 graduate of the Park City School of Beauty and Culture, she worked with her late sister, Mary Horvath, for many years as a beautician. Mrs Kowats was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Bridgeport.

Survivors include her three children, Donald J. Kowats, Sr and his wife Carolyn of Newtown, Nancy Alshuk of Derby, and John M. Kowats and his wife Barbara of Fairfield; a sister, Betty Lee of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held December 31 in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, with the Rev Betsy Reed officiating. Interment followed in Lawncroft Cemetery.
