Noise Problem

Police said that they stopped motorist Bryne Spellman, 36, of Rowayton on Main Street at about 8:25 pm December 22 to investigate, after which they charged her with creating excessive noise with an automotive muffler and driving with a suspended license.

Police released Spellman on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the hazardous intersection of Taunton Lane and Mt Pleasant Road about 11:30 am December 16, according to police.

Police report that motorist Susan Cacioppo, 65, of 61 Head O’Meadow Road, who was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue sedan northward on Taunton Lane, had stopped the vehicle at a stop at that street’s intersection with Mt Pleasant Road.

Motorist Flavia Knapp, 36, of New Milford, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck westward on Mt Pleasant Road, then attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Taunton Lane, police said.

But in attempting to make the left turn, the Dodge cut the corner too closely and collided with the Oldsmobile, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they charged Knapp with making a restricted turn and with driving without automotive insurance.

Botsford Accident

About 3 pm on December 16, motorist Ronald Schneider, 36, of Monroe, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry sedan on South Main Street, near its intersection with Meadowbrook Road and Botsford Hill Road, drove into the rear end of a 1997 Nissan XE/SE truck which was stopped for a red traffic signal, police said.

Mark Edwards, 45, of 22 Wendover Road was driving the Nissan, police added.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Schneider an infraction for following too closely.

 

Flagpole

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the flagpole intersection where Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street meet at about 2:35 pm December 15.

In that incident, the front end of a 2003 Ford Taurus sedan driven by Michael Abbatiello, 18, of Monroe inadvertently struck the rear end of a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica SUV driven by Erika Moran, 36, of 15 Purdy Station Road, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Abbatiello a written warning for following too closely.

Glover Avenue

 About 1:45 pm December 16, motorist Mark Simms, 49, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 BMW 550-I sedan eastward on Glover Avenue, near its intersection with Meadow Road, drove into the rear end of an eastbound 1999 Chrysler Sebring driven by Lawrence A. Surat, Jr, 56, of 25 Boggs Hill Road, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Simms a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Dodge Vs Saturn

Police report a two-vehicle collision in the parking lot at 117 Mt Pleasant Road about 8:20 am December 21.

In that incident, a 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan driven by Melvin McCarley, 79, of Danbury, inadvertently struck a 2003 Saturn Vue SUV driven by Carol Gee, 68, of 64 Mile Hill Road South, police report.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

 

South Main Street

Motorist Matthew Dillon, 40, of Oakville, who was driving a 2005 Dodge truck on South Main Street, near its intersections with Elm Drive, stopped for traffic conditions at about 12:08 pm December 20, police said.

Motorist Theodoro Delia, 54, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 Jeep truck, attempted to stop, but struck the rear end of the Dodge, police added.

There were no injuries. Delia received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Damaged BMW

Police report they are investigating an incident in which an unknown motorist drove into a parked red 1994 BMW 318-IS coupe and then left the scene without reporting the collision.

The BMW, which is owned by an Ohio man, was parked in the parking lot at 5 Queen Street near Caraluzzi’s Market on the afternoon of December 20, police report. The BMW received damage to its trunk lid in the impact.

Anyone with information on the identity of the driver responsible for the damage is asked to contact Officer Dana Schubert at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Two MV Charges

Police report that they stopped motorist Oksana Litelpo, 24, of 227 Berkshire Road for driving faster than the posted speed limit on Church Hill Road at about 9:24 pm December 22.

After investigating, police charged Litelpo with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released Litelpo on a written promise to appear January 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on southbound South Main Street about 5:20 pm December 14, according to police.

Police report that motorist Michelle Macy, 36, of Swamp Road, who was driving a 2003 Dodge station wagon, drove into the rear end of a 2002 GMC pickup truck driven by Annette Sullivan, 41, of Morgan Drive.

That impact pushed the 2002 GMC pickup truck into the rear end a 2007 GMC pickup truck driven by Shaun Hannah, 37, of King Street, police report. The accident occurred near 228 South Main Street.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Macy a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Dodge Vs Toyota

About 12:07 pm December 22, motorist Kamran Khan, 20, of Fairfield, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Durango SUV, was in the parking lot at the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street and was preparing to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street, according to police.

At that time, motorist Mark Cowell, 49, of 29 Orchard Hill Road was driving a 2005 Toyota Prius northward on South Main Street, police report.

As the Dodge attempted to turn left onto South Main Street, the two vehicles collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they charged Khan with making a restricted turn and with driving with a suspended license. Police released Khan on a written promise to appear in court on January 6.

 

Audiobooks

Police report they are seeking the owner of a compact disc case which holds several audiobooks recorded onto CDs. Authors of those books include Tom Clancy, Jack London, and Mary Higgins Clark.

The items were found at about 10 am on October 12 on Oakview Road, near Newtown High School. To claim the audiobooks, the owner should contact Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 203-426-5841.

DUI Incident

Police said that on the afternoon of December 23, they stopped motorist Evan Brooks, 26, of 71 Main Street for a travel speed violation on Mt Pleasant Road, after which they investigated.

Newtown police said they brought in the Monroe Police Department’s police dog to help them investigate.

Police said that they found some syringes in the vehicle that Evans was driving which tested positive for the presence of narcotics.

Police charged Brooks with driving under the influence, traveling too fast, possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they released Brooks on a written promise to appear in court on January 7.

Vandalism

Police are investigating a case of vandalism in which someone intentionally damaged a curbside residential mailbox on Jeremiah Road, near its intersection with Bennetts Bridge Road.

The damage occurred sometime between 7 pm December 22, and 7 am December 23. Police are investigating the third-degree criminal mischief and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer Charles Guernsey at 203-426-5841.

Credit Card

An investigation into a complaint on December 23 found that Tiffany Weymouth, 19, of 70 Berkshire Road had stolen a wallet from a shopping cart at the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street and then used a credit card from that wallet to purchase some items at the Friendly Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street, police said.

Police said they charged Weymouth with credit card theft, credit card fraud, and sixth-degree larceny. Police released her on a written promise to appear in court on January 6.

Wendover Road

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Wendover Road about 10:20 am December 23.

Police said motorist Jina Willie, 20, of 53 Butterfield Road, who was driving a 1996 Honda Accord southward on Wendover Road, stopped at a stop sign at that road’s intersection with Church Hill Road.

At that time, motorist Lauren Tschantz, 31, of 6 Hundred Acres Road was driving a 2005 Acura MDX westward on Church Hill Road, according to police.

The Honda then attempted to turn left onto eastbound Church Hill Road, but the two vehicles collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Willie a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

BMW Vs Dodge

Two vehicles collided at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street, Prospect Drive, and Peck’s Lane about 2:30 pm December 23.

The collision involved motorist Elizabeth Iannini, 36, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 BMW X-330-SI station wagon northward on Peck’s Lane, and motorist Ruben Merino, 47, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan minivan southward on South Main Street, police report.

In the collision, the BMW struck the Dodge, police said. There were no injuries. Iannini received a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign, according to police.

Shady Rest

A two-vehicle collision occurred on snow-covered roads in the Shady Rest section of Sandy Hook about 7:40 am December 20. The accident occurred at the intersection of Shady Rest Boulevard and Overlook Knoll.

Motorist Sebastio Sobrinho, 49, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Subaru Impreza station wagon, attempted to stop at a stop sign at the intersection, but went into a skid and collided with motorist Lauren Collins, 51, of 3 Todds Road, who was driving a 2007 Honda Accord sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Sobrinho an infraction for driving without a license; they also issued Sobrinho a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Honda Vs Snow

Motorist Haley Russo, 17, of 37 Oak Ridge Drive was driving a 2008 Honda Element SUV northward on Hattertown Road, just north of its intersection with Abbotts Hill Road, at about 8:20 am December 17, when the Honda struck an accumulation of snow and ice that had been left in the roadway after it had been plowed out onto the road from a driveway, police said.

Russo was not injured, but the Honda was damaged by the impact, police said. Police took no enforcement. The depositing of snow and ice on a roadway is illegal, according to police.

Deer In Snow

Motorist Besmir Behluli, 23, of 335 South Main Street was driving a 1997 Acura Integra sedan southward on a snow-covered Boggs Hill Road, north of its intersection with Palestine Road, about 7:30 pm December 24, when Behluli rounded a curve and encountered a deer standing on the road, police aid.

Behluli attempted to avoid a collision, but slid into the opposite lane and went off the road with the Acura coming to rest atop a stone wall, according to police. Behluli was not injured. Police verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Currituck/Main

A two-vehicle accident occurred on southbound Currituck Road at its intersection with Main Street about 1 pm December 17, police said.

In that incident, motorist Carter Prue, 52, of New York City, who was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-500 station wagon, struck the rear end of a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora driven by Rodney Hadden, 42, of Bethel, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

South Main Incident

Police report that motorist Nicole Perry, 25, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima sedan southward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Bryan Lane about 12:20 am December 25, encountered an unknown northbound vehicle which crossed over the road’s center line.

The Nissan attempted to steer out of the way of the unknown vehicle, but the unknown vehicle hit the Nissan, damaging its left exterior rear-view mirror, police said. Perry was not injured.

Police said the offending vehicle may have been red in color and may have been an SUV, a minivan or a large station wagon.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the collision to contact investigating Officer William Chapman at the police station.

Coins Stolen

On December 22, police learned that someone had stolen an estimated $1,000 to $1,500 worth of US coins from a large plastic bottle kept in a house on Possum Ridge Road. That street is a dead-end road that extends from Castle Hill Road. Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

SUV Vs Truck

About 1:22 pm December 21, motorist Arthur Burns, 64, of Palm Coast, Fla., who was driving a 2010 Ford Edge SUV northward on South Main Street, drove into the rear end of a northbound 2001 Hino truck driven by Lenny Hankins, 39, of Bethel, which was slowing down to make a turn into the driveway at 129 South Main Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Burns a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Highway Crash

Motorist Joseph Shorr, 28, of York Springs, Penn., who was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11 at about 12:50 pm December 26, swerved and braked for a vehicle which was changing travel lanes ahead of him, state police said.

The Dodge, however, went into a skid and collided with some metal-beam guardrailing, according to state police. Shorr was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Interstate Collision

About 3:55 pm December 23, motorist Michael Davis, 37, of Beacon Falls, who was driving a 2000 Volvo S-80 eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Volvo was struck from behind by motorist Robert Saleski, 63, PO Box 121, Hawleyville, who was driving a 1994 Acura Integra, state police report.

There were no injuries. State police said they warned Saleski for following too closely.
