Newtown is under a Winter Weather Advisory for much of Monday, February 8, with heavy snow expected across central and eastern sections of southern Connecticut and Long Island. Snow arrived in Newtown right around 9 am, and is expected to continue until early evening. NWS is predicting 3 to 5 inches of new snow before the current system moves out of the area.

The weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service (New York-New York office, at 7:21 am February 8) covers Fairfield County, along with Nassau and Putnam counties. Accumulations of 3-6 inches are possible by the time the advisory concludes at 6 pm Monday. Temperatures will be around 30 degrees for much of the afternoon, and winds will be 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, according to the weather service.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected due to snow covered roads, the NWS advisory also includes.
