The bridge is now expected to reopen to traffic at about 3 pm on Tuesday, April 26, according to a DOT official. The bridge had been scheduled to reopen on the morning of Monday, April 25, after

Work has been underway on a $4.47 million bridge renovation project for the past year.

When the bridge reopens, alternating one-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals will resume. The overall bridge project is expected to be completed by late July or early August.

Silver Bridge, which spans the Lake Zoar section of the Housatonic River, links Glen Road in Sandy Hook to River Road Southbury.

A pair of vehicles travel west on State Route 816, crossing from Southbury into Sandy Hook earlier this month, when the Silver Bridge was still open for alternating one-way traffic during renovations. A full closure of the bridge that began last week has been extended by a day and a half. The state DOT is hoping to reopen the bridge by mid-afternoon Tuesday, April 26. (Bee Photo, Gorosko)
