Top-seeded REACH and third-seeded Black Swan will meet in the Women's Softball League championship game, Friday, August 19, at Treadwell Park, with the first pitch set for approximately 6:30 pm.

Black Swan advanced with a come-from-behind effort, defeating No. 2 Cover Two 8-6 at Treadwell Park, and REACH blanked No. 5 Cork N Barrel 8-0 at Dickinson Park, both on August 10.

Trailing 6-3 in the fifth, Black Swan pulled to within a run on Emma MacHugh's two-run triple. In the top of the seventh inning, Melissa Shepard's second triple of the game plated the tying and go-ahead runs for a 7-6 lead, and Joey Barry's sacrifice fly added an insurance run.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Cover Two put two runners on base as Sandy Doski and Jill Waldron had singles. With one out, Black Swan's Christine Cooney fielded a grounder at second and tossed the ball to shortstop Barry, covering second, for a force out; Barry then threw home to catcher Kayla Mesko for a tag to end the game.

Melissa Fracker was 2-for-3 with a homerun, and Rosie Jackman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the win.

In REACH's victory, pitcher Shelby Rotunda pitched well and made some nice fielding plays, snaring two comebackers, and turning one of them into a double play.

Ali Cordova hit a two-run homer to right in the first inning, and Donna Burns doubled home Rebecca Narel, who had doubled, for a 3-0 lead in the second.

Rotunda pitched around a couple of hits, including a Chris Jannott's double to left-center, in the third. Corks pitcher Karen Alexander worked out of a first and third jam in the bottom of the third, but REACH added to its lead in the fourth, with a run scoring on an error, and Courtney Waters delivering an RBI single to extend the lead to five.

The Corks tried to rally in the sixth as Jannott and Alexander both singled with two outs, and Denise Croden extended the inning another batter with a walk to load the bases, but Rotunda again escaped unscathed.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kathy Piccini singled with the bases loaded to drive home a pair, and Stacey Gordon later tagged up at third and alertly dashed home following a line-drive out to first.

Burns, REACH's catcher, made a nice sliding catch, behind the plate, for the final out.

Black Swan had beaten No. 3 Donate Life and Cork N Barrel topped No. 4 Petzercise in the quarterfinals, on August 8.
