Church Hill at Edmond Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Edmond Road during the evening rush, about 5:30 pm, on May 25.

Motorist Christina Davis, 27, of 69 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox SUV southward on Edmond Road, stopped at a stop sign, police said. At that time, motorist Katarzyna Stellacci, 38, of Danbury, was driving a 2014 Audi A-6 auto westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The Chevrolet then entered the intersection and struck the Audi, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps evaluated both drivers at the scene, but made no transport, police said. Police said they verbally warned Davis for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Main Street DUI

Police report that at about 2:05 am on May 28, motorist Michael Vale, 52, of Brookfield, was driving a station wagon southward on Main Street, near Currituck Road, as a tractor-trailer truck was traveling northward there.

Vale drove over the street's center line and struck the truck, police said. Vale received minor injuries in the collision, according to police.

After investigating, police arrested Vale on charges of driving under the influence, failure to keep to the right, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, police report.

Following arrest processing, police released Vale on $500 bail for a June 14 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Golf Gear Gone

Police report that on May 31 they received a report on the theft of some golf equipment from the Rock Ridge Country Club at 214 Sugar Street (Route 302) in Dodgingtown.

Police received that report from a male country club member who said that his black Ping-brand golf bag, which contained several golf clubs with red head covers bearing the TaylorMade brand name, had been stolen from the men's locker room.

Police said they received a related report stating that a suspicious male who is a not a country club member had been seen in that area. Police said that the suspicious male is white, balding, and with a brown beard. The man reportedly is about 5-feet, 8-inches tall. Police said the man was seen walking while carrying a black golf bag toward an older vehicle which was parked in the country club's parking lot.

Police said Officer Felicia Figol is investigating the incident and seeking information from the public on the whereabouts of the golf gear. Ofc Figol can be reached at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Three Vehicles

At about 6 pm on June 1, motorist Haochen Kong, 22, of Newark, Del., who was driving a 2016 Hyundai Veloster sports car westward on Berkshire Road, stopped at a red traffic signal at that road's intersection with Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Westbound motorist Christopher Gardner, 45, of 4 Mt Pleasant Terrace, who was driving a 2009 Honda Accord, stopped behind the Hyundai, police said.

Westbound motorist Manuel Augustin Salto Saico, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Honda Civic, then struck the rear end of the Honda Accord, pushing that vehicle into the rear end of the Hyundai Veloster, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Saico an infraction on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and driving without a license.

 

SUV vs SUV

About 3:10 pm on June 2, motorist Barbara Riebe, 59, of 8 Oak Drive, who was driving a 2009 Honda CR-V SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, near The Boulevard, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Alyssa Schneider, 17, of Bethel, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Schneider received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Interstate Accident

State police report that a two-vehicle collision occurred on the section of eastbound Interstate 84 that lies between the Exit 10 off-ramp and Exit 10 on-ramp about 3:20 pm on June 3.

In that incident, a commercial 2000 Sterling truck driven by Lance Walters, 37, of Woodbury, moved to the right and struck a 2013 Honda Civic driven by Beverly Hall, 82, of Southbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Walters for making an unsafe lane change.

Fairfield Hills Crash

At about 2:50 pm on June 4, motorist Elise Frangione, 50, of 3 Webster Place, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Legacy southward on Mile Hill Road South, slowed in preparing to make a left turn onto Keating Farms Avenue, after which the Subaru was struck from behind by a southbound 2007 Nissan Altima driven by Teresa Pellicci, 63, of 11-A Nunnawauk Meadows, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said Pellicci received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sunglasses

On June 5, a pair of woman's prescription sunglasses was found on Main Street, near its intersection with Glover Avenue. The glasses have brown plastic frames.

The finder turned over the glasses to the police for safekeeping. The owner may claim the eyeglasses by contacting Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner by telephone at the police station at 203 426-5841.

Warrant

Police report that at about 2:10 pm on June 5, Zachery Krajewski, 22, of Monroe, went to the police station and turned himself over to police after having learned that there was a pending warrant for his arrest.

Newtown police said that they charged Krajewski with failure to respond to an infraction because Krajewski had not responded to an infraction ticket that had been issued to him by Shelton police.

After posting $92 bail, Newtown police released Krajewski for a June 21 appearance in Derby Superior Court.

Wet Roadway

During wet road conditions at about 3 pm on June 5, motorist David Milton, 37, of Cheshire, who was driving a 2006 Dodge Durango SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of the Exit 9 off-ramp, was slowing for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Peterjohn Bradshaw, 21, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1996 Honda Accord, according to state police.

There were no injuries. Bradshaw received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Highway Collision

At about 4:50 pm on June 5, on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 9, motorist Joseph Teagarden, 16, of Bethel, who was driving a 1999 Buick Regal sedan, veered and struck a 2016 Ford Explorer SUV driven by John Tharpe, 42, of Farmington, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Teagarden received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Keys Found

Police report that midday on June 6, they received for safekeeping two keys that were found on the road near 2 Boggs Hill Road.

One Ford-brand key has an integrated remote control device. Police described the other item as a small, silver-colored key.

Rear-Ender

Police report that motorist Audrey Rugar, 55, of Centereach, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Pontiac Vibe SUV westward on Church Hill Road, stopped at a red traffic signal at that street's intersection with Commerce Road at about 12:07 pm on June 7, after which the Pontiac was struck from behind by westbound motorist Troy Simoncelli, 23, of Bethlehem, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Simoncelli an infraction for following too closely.

A Sandy Hook firefighter walks toward the scene of an accident Wednesday evening, which led to the roadway being closed for just over an hour. Police report that a two-car head-on accident occurred on Berkshire Road, about 500 feet west of its intersection with Zoar Road, about 5:52 pm on May 24. Motorist Anacristina Herrick, 48, of 9 Charlie's Circle was driving a 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-350 sedan eastward, as motorist Brian Lei, 21, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was driving a 2009 Honda Civic sedan westward, police said. The Honda failed to negotiate a curve in the road and then entered the opposite lane, striking the Mercedes head-on, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked both drivers at the scene and the ambulance transported one person to a hospital to be checked, police said. Additional Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company members also responded to the accident. Police said they issued Lei an infraction for failure to drive to the right on a curve. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to extensive front end damage. (Bee Photo, Hicks)
