Rear-End Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred near 71 South Main Street about 1:39 pm on April 13, according to police.

Motorist Kristina Tartaglia, no age given, of 105 Church Hill Road was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV northward and then slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by northbound motorist Lucas Reppucci, no age given, of 12 Shady Rest Boulevard, who was driving a 2006 GMC Canyon pickup truck, police said.

After investigating, police issued Reppucci an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police report they gave Tartaglia a written warning for failure to carry a driver's license.

Nissan vs Ford

Motorist Stacey Sanzone, 35, of Middlebury was driving a 2008 Ford Expedition SUV westward near 72 Taunton Lake Road at about 3 pm on April 13, and then slowed to make a left turn, after which the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Devine Giordano, 20, of 80 Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Giordano for following too closely.

Swamp Road Rollover

Motorist Kevin Nunez, 23, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Honda Civic northward on Swamp Road on at about 11:30 pm on April 13, and then started to make a turn to the right, but lost control of the auto, after which it went across the opposite lane, drove off the left road shoulder, hit a tree and then overturned, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Nunez an infraction for failure to keep to the right on a curve.

Car vs Pole

Police report that motorist Patrick Moore, 31, of Stratford was driving a 2009 Honda Accord southward and was approaching 182 South Main Street at about 4:55 am on April 15, when the vehicle swerved into the northbound lane and then went off the northbound road shoulder, striking a utility pole.

Police said Moore reported pain, but declined to be transported to the hospital. Moore received an infraction for making a restricted turn, according to police.

Interstate Crash

State police report that at about 5:17 pm on April 15, motorist Michael Healy, 17, of West Nyack, N.Y., who was driving a 2008 Subaru Outback eastward on Interstate 84, stopped in heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Danielle Harrison, 23, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Lexus IS-250.

There were no injuries.

Harrison received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Sandy Hook Accident

Motorist Evan Thornton, 27, of 24 Dinglebrook Lane, who was driving a 2002 Saturn L-100 sedan eastward on Riverside Road about 7:11 pm on April 15, while negotiating a curve to the left, skidded and then spun around, police said.

The auto then struck a guardpost, after which it landed on the front lawn at 94 Riverside Road, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said Thornton received an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Motorcycle

William Landan, 22, of Shelton was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson FLHX motorcycle eastward on Berkshire Road, about 500 feet west of its intersection with Zoar Road, at about 8:48 pm on April 15, when he attempted to negotiate a curve to the left, but lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The motorcycle rotated, skidded, and then drove off the right road shoulder, after which Landan was thrown off of the motorcycle before it struck a small tree, police said.

Landan was transported to Danbury Hospital, police said. Police verbally warned Landan for making a restricted turn.

Motorcycle Accident

Police said that at about noon on April 16, motorist Kevin Siciliano, 57, of Norwalk was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Dodgingtown Road, as Michael Diiorio, 27, of Bethel was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson FXDC motorcycle eastward on Dodgingtown Road.

The Jeep signaled and then attempted to make a left turn into the driveway at Dodgingtown Market, resulting in the motorcyclist intentionally dropping the motorcycle to ground to avoid a collision with the Jeep, which was making a turn in front of the approaching motorcycle, police said.

The two vehicles did not make contact. There were no injuries.

Siciliano received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, according to police. Diiorio received an infraction for riding a motorcycle without a license, police said.

I-84 Collision

At about 3:43 pm on April 16, motorist Nicholas Carozza, 19, of 43 Yogananda Street, who was driving a 2012 Nisan Rogue SUV westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, slowed because there was some debris on the highway and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Blanca Del Collaguazo Rivera, 32, of Danbury, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV, state police report.

There were no injuries. State police said Rivera received an infraction for following too closely and for driving without a license.

Drug Charges

Police arrested two men on drug charges late on the night of April 16.

Police said that while on patrol about 11:17 pm, they noticed two vehicles parked at a closed gas station at 151 South Main Street, so they investigated the situation with their dog.

Police said they arrested Richard Hood, 29, of Naugatuck, on charges of sale of a controlled substance, operating a drug factory, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of a weapon (wooden club) in a motor vehicle.

Police said they charged Alexander Raftery, 20, of Shelton with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of weapon (oversized knife) in a motor vehicle.

Hood was released on $1,000 nonsurety bail and Raftery was released on written promise to appear in court. Both men are scheduled to be in court on May 3.

Burglary/Drugs

Police said they received a report concerning a possible burglary in progress occurring at a home at Old Bridge Road at about 11:30 am on April 17, so they responded to investigate.

Police said they found a man inside the kitchen of the house which had been forcibly entered.

After investigating, police arrested Victor Williams, 51, of Danbury on charges of third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal trespassing, sixth-degree larceny, and possession of narcotics.

Following Williams' arrest processing, police released him on $10,000 bail for arraignment on the criminal charges on May 3 in Danbury Superior Court.

Main Street Collision

Police said motorist Keri West, 25, of Campbell Hall, N.Y., who was driving a 2015 Subaru Impreza northward on Main Street, south of Currituck Road, about 2 pm on April 17, struck the rear end of a northbound 2013 Honda CR-V SUV, which had slowed for traffic conditions.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned West for following too closely.

Highway Crash

On April 18, on Interstate 84 near Exit 9, motorist Brittany Morgan, 23, of 56 Dodgingtown Road, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, attempted to pass a 2009 Honda Accord driven by Brianna Panio, 21, of Southbury, but lost control of the Chevrolet and struck the Honda, state police said.

There were no injuries. Morgan was warned for failure to maintain the established lane, state police said.

Church Hill Road Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road, near Hawley School, about 5:21 pm on April 18.

In that accident, a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Kelsey Nicholson, 17, of 2 King Street, struck a 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by Brianna DelGiudice, 17, of 2 Leopard Drive, police report.

There were no injuries. Nicholson received a written warning for improper passing, police said.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Kevin Perreault, 40, of Danbury turned himself over to police at the police station about 11:30 am, on April 19, and was charged with fourth-degree larceny, police said.

Police said that on June 6, 2015, they received a report that two leaf blowers and two weed trimmers had been stolen from a Berkshire Road address, after which they investigated and determined that Perreault had taken the devices, so they sought a warrant for his arrest.

After processing, Perreault was released on a written promise to appear in court on May 3, police said.

Key Rock Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred at a stop sign on Key Rock Road at its intersection with Sugar Street about 6:11 pm on April 19.

In that incident, motorist Michael Robinson, 23, of Redding, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, struck the rear end of a 2012 Nissan X-Terra SUV driven by Ian Thoesen, 39, of 5 Dogwood Terrace, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Robinson a misdemeanor summons for a court appearance on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for driving with a suspended license.

I-84 Collision

State police report that on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 10, on April 20 motorist Jesse Morgan, 56, of Hillsdale, Michigan, who was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz, struck a 2007 Lexus GS-350 sedan driven by Tracy Ulacco, 55, of Southbury.

There were no injuries. Morgan received a warning for failure to maintain the proper lane, state police said.

Pedestrian Hit

Police report a collision involving a pedestrian and a sedan that occurred about 3:06 am, on April 20, on Hawleyville Road, just north of its intersection with North Ridge Drive.

Police said a 23-year-old local man was walking alongside his vehicle, which was parked on the northbound road shoulder of Hawleyville Road, when he was struck by a dark sedan traveling northward at about 20 miles per hour.

After the collision the unknown driver continued traveling toward Brookfield, police said.

The victim suffered no apparent injury, but reported soreness, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene, but the man declined medical attention police said. Hawleyville volunteer firefighters also responded.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with knowledge of the person who was driving offending vehicle and evaded responsibility to contact Officer William Crone at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Chain Reaction

At about 3:33 pm on April 22, a three-vehicle chain-reaction collision occurred on westbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet east of Exit 10.

In that incident, a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Klaudia Sali, 20, of Watertown, drove into the rear end of a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Scott Pavignano, 49, of Otisville, N.Y., pushing the Cruze into the rear end of a 2013 Hyundai Genesis driven by Elizabeth Lupfer, 42, of West Hartford, state police said.

All drivers declined medical attention. Sali received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to state police.

Sedan Hits Guardcables

While traveling on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, at about 4:05 pm on April 23, motorist Maddison Abbygale Byrne, 19, of Brookfield, who was diving a 2004 Hyundai Sonata sedan, noticed that highway traffic had slowed in front of her, so to avoid hitting another vehicle, she swerved to the left but then struck some guardcables, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they warned Byrne for failure to maintain the established lane.

Trespassing, Vandalism

Police report they received a complaint about 5 pm on April 23, informing them that there were four people breaking into a vacant old house and adjacent barn on the 34-acre property at 3 Old Farm Road Fairfield Hills owned by The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation. The foundation plans to create a wildlife sanctuary at the property.

Police said they responded to the area and found four people near the buildings. The complainant identified the four as those who had entered the dilapidated house and broke a window on the barn, police said.

Police said that all four offenders are under age 18 and are thus considered juveniles. Police charged each of the four youths with third-degree criminal trespassing and with third-degree criminal mischief.

Because the youths are under 18, police did not disclose their identities.

Mazda Hit

At about 11:27 am on April 24, police responded to the shopping plaza at 5 Queen Street after receiving a report that a motorist had evaded responsibility after a collision occurred there.

While it was parked in the parking lot, an unknown motorist struck and damaged a 2014 Mazda CX-5 compact SUV and then left the scene without reporting the accident. The vehicle that hit the Mazda is believed to be red, based on evidence.

Police are investigating and ask anyone who knows the identity of the offending driver to contact police at the police station at 230-426-5841 in reference to Case #16-8334.

Moving Violation

Police said they received a report at about 7:32 pm on April 24 that a vehicle that had been driven erratically had parked at Newtown Mobil, a gas station at 62 Church Hill Road, so they went there to investigate.

After investigating, police charged the vehicle's driver, Sean Morits, 42, of 4 Castle Hill Road, with driving with suspended license. After he posted $100 bail, police released him for a May 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Honda vs Toyota

At about 8:20 pm on April 24, motorist Aaron Hogue, 50, of New York City, who was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, slowed for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by motorist Anderson Hidalgo-Peralta, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Honda CR-V SUV, state police said.

There were no injuries. Hidalgo-Peralta was following too closely, according to state police.

Fraud Charges

Police report that on the morning of April 25, they arrested George Hospodar, 60, of 238 Berkshire Road on a warrant on charges of second-degree larceny by defrauding a public community and attempted second-degree larceny to defraud a public community.

Police said that Hospodar is accused of stealing from the town's Social Services Department.

Police said that Hospodar requested on multiple occasions that social services buy various parts so that he could make home repairs at his residence.

Hospodar, however, did not make those repairs and on multiple occasions he allegedly returned to the store the items which had been purchased there, receiving refunds for the items and keeping that money, police said. The loss value was $128, police said.

After arrest processing, Hospodar was released on a written promise to appear on May 10 in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Sandy Hook Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road, just west of its four-way intersection with Grays Plain Road and Bennetts Bridge Road, at about 8:51 am on April 25, according to police.

In that incident, westbound motorist Brittany Boudreau, 20, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty SUV, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Lauren Verner, 29, of New Haven, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Verner for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Paugussett Road, at about 9:54 pm on April 26.

Police said eastbound motorist Albriana Raymond, 17, of 7 Oak Drive, who was driving a 2006 Ford Focus auto, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2005 Honda Pilot SUV driven by Felicia Delgiudice, 50, of 2 Leopard Drive.

After the impact, the Ford went off the roadway, struck some curbing and then came to rest against a tree, police report.

Both drivers and a passenger in the Honda reported pain and were evaluated at the scene by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said. Police said they issued Raymond an infraction for following too closely.
