    John J. Benanti, 94, Newtown, died peacefully August 20, at Pope John Paul Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 17, 1919, in Manhattan, he overcame the hardships of the Great Depression and the death of his father, at age 11, by working as a shoeshine boy and Western Union Messenger, to help support his family.

    Rose L. Reggiano, 88, of Sandy Hook, died August 21, at Masonicare at Newtown. She was born in Smithers, W. Va., October 28, 1924, one of ten children of the late Mario and Angela (Castro) Lodato.

    Kathleen D. (McPadden) Fedeli, 74, died August 15, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport, June 20, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine McPadden.

    Margaret “Peggy” Hull, 84, of Brooklyn, died August 20, at St Francis Hospital in Hartford. She was born in Bridgeport, July 13, 1929, daughter of Michael and Bertha (Creevey) Dugas. She was the wife of Lester L. Hull.

    Dolores M. Wood, 66, of Newtown, died at her home, August 17. She was born September 1, 1946, in Bridgeport, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline (Fritz) Moll.

  • Lillian Canfield McCarthy Ermisch

    Newtown native, Lillian Canfield McCarthy Ermisch, 94, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs George Glover Canfield, died June 27, at her son’s home in Inverness, Fla. She was born in Danbury Hospital, January 9, 1919, and was the twelfth generation of Newtown-founding Glovers.

    Lucy Marie Bonacci, 90, died peacefully August 17, at the Bethel Health Care facility, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 22, 1922, she was the daughter of John and Catherine Donatico of South Norwalk.
