DANBURY — Court officials this week disclosed information uncovered by the ongoing state police investigation into the December 14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in which a gunman on a shooting rampage killed 20 first-graders and six educators, before killing himself as police approached. In a March 28 statement, Stephen J. Sedensky III, the Danbury State’s Attorney, said that on the morning of December 14, Adam Lanza, 20, of 36 Yogananda Street, Sandy Hook, shot his mother, Nancy Lanza, 52, in her bed with a .22-caliber rifle. There was no indication of a struggle.

An accidental misspelling on a recently installed Dickinson Park sign will need to be corrected. “It will have to be recast,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Amy Mangold regarding a granite sign put in place late last week outside the A. Fenn Dickinson Memorial Park. Fenn has been carved as Finn on the sign.
Newtown’s fire companies were on the scene of a fire at 254 Berkshire Road at until nearly 7 pm, Wednesday, where a structure was destroyed. Firefighters from all five of the town’s companies, in addition to apparatus and manpower from neighboring towns, were dispatched to the property around 3:20 Wednesday afternoon to the area. The initial call was for a possible structure fire on an property on the eastern side of Berkshire Road but it now appears the fire has destroyed a building on the west side of the state road.
