Marie M. Rodgers Wolfe of Southbury died September 15, after a long and happy life. She was surrounded by family, friends, and song. She was born September 11, 1928, and was raised in Roselle, N.J. Mrs Wolfe was one of eight children of the late Margaret (McPhillips) and Francis Rodgers.

Her daughters Maryann and Susan Wolfe, both of Sandy Hook, and Carolyn Wolfe of Massachusetts; grandchildren Shannon, Matthew, and Alexis Barra; and siblings Florence Fiorello and Robert Rodgers survive her. Her cherished son William J. Wolfe; husband David H. Wolfe; and siblings Dorothy McGuire, Virginia Honold, Marjorie Rodgers, Frank Rodgers, and Eileen Sharkey predeceased her.

Her large Irish family enjoyed evening sing-alongs, trips to the Jersey Shore, and skating at the local park. After earning her degree at Union Junior College, Mrs Wolfe landed an exciting job in New York City in R&D at Esso (Exxon).

Outgoing and adventurous, she joined the Plainfield Ski Club where she met her husband, David Halsey Wolfe, Jr. Married for more than 40 years, they shared a love of travel, entertaining, reading, and competitive bridge. They raised four children and lived in Newburgh, N.Y., and Basking Ridge, N.J., before settling into their beautiful home in Simsbury. A devoted mother and active volunteer, she delighted in being involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. The visits with her siblings and many nieces and nephews were her joy.

Mrs Wolfe was curious by nature and determined to learn something new every day. She had a great interest in current events and world news, which often led to lively conversations. Quick to smile, she inspired people to be their best, brightening their life with her loving spirit. And throughout her life, she carried her most precious attribute: her Catholic faith.

Friends may call at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury, on Tuesday, September 20, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 pm at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown.
