Library Program Teaches Crafts From Around The World

For the past few Mondays, the C.H. Booth Library has been hosting craft programs, overseen by Marie Walker. This Monday, August 1, children between 4 and 9 worked on making Mardi Gras masks.

“It’s cool,” said 5-year-old Ellie Boni, who said her favorite part of the project was the pretty colors on the masks.

Ms Walker said the library started hosting the Crafts Around the World program to match its summer theme of “Reading Around the World.” Other programs offered at the library over the summer include a Cooking Around the World program.

“They love doing this,” said Ms Walker.

Previous craft days had children design Chinese dragon puppets, koi fish, and more.

The last Craft Around the World day is scheduled for Monday, August 8, from 1 pm to 3 pm, and Ms Walker said parents can drop off students or attend the program with them at any time during the two hours.

“We just have lots of fun,” said Ms Walker, adding it is amusing to see the children enjoying themselves while making craft projects.

Shawn Kuehling, a 5-year-old, sat with his sisters Grace, 8, and Maggie, 3, at a back table in the library’s Story Time Room on Monday. The children’s grandmother, Lorraine Hurley, had brought them to the event.

“It’s good because you get to make your own glasses,” said Shawn, while working on his own Mardi Gras mask.

“It’s fun and creative,” said his older sister Grace.

For the last session of the Crafts Around the World program, Ms Walker said attendees will create rain sticks using paper towel rolls, rice and beans.
