Letters to the Editor

  • Ranger’s Renaissance

To the Editor: We are writing to express our profound thanks to the wonderful people at Newtown Animal Control for helping match us with Ranger, our new, two-year-old dog we adopted earlier this month.

  • It’s A Newtown Thing

To the Editor: As a single mother who rushes home to make dinner for my kids, the first thing I do when I get in the door is to change into my favorite jogging pants that I have owned forever. They have the word Newtown running down the leg.

  • Another Successful Sandy Hook LobsterFest

To the Editor: The officers and members of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. would like to thank our family, friends, fellow firefighters, residents of Newtown and out-of-town guests for helping to make our 28th annual LobsterFest on Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, a success. We served over 2,000 lobsters and 660 pounds of steak last weekend, along with hundreds of burger and hot dog dinners.

  • A Wonderful Life In A Wonderful Town

To the Editor: Given the circumstances that have transpired over the last few months, I felt the need to write you to extend my appreciation to the members of our community. When my wife, Barbara, and I moved to Newtown in 1994, our goal was to find a pleasant town to live in and raise our three children. Our requirements were simple: we wanted a house, a yard, and good schools. What we got instead was far more than we bargained for.

  • Don’t Rush Into A Decision On Hawley School

To the Editor: I'm not from Newtown. In fact I grew up over 3,000 miles away in London, England. However, over the last 13 years Newtown has become my home town, due in large part to the school communities that have warmly welcomed our family.

  • A Butterfly Party For All Creatures Great And Small

To the Editor: There simply aren't enough words to express our gratitude to all who helped make Catherine's Butterfly Party a success on Saturday, June 6. Over 2,000 people attended along with a wonderful array of vendors, sponsors, rescue organizations and educational groups. We are so grateful to the community for supporting this event and helping us build a sanctuary of peace and compassion for all creatures, great and small.

  • Bob-o-link Paradise

To the Editor: What is it about birds that we find so fascinating and awe-inspiring? Is it their ability to break the bonds of gravity and freely move in any direction, their ability to navigate across countries or even continents, their songs which captur...

  • Homes For Our Troops

To the Editor: Hillary Clinton wrote that it takes a village to raise a child. It takes a nation of volunteer fundraisers, such as myself, to provide severely-wounded military with the handicap houses they need to live out the rest of their lives as comfor...
