Lantern Parade Continues Arts Festival Events

Newtown Arts Festival events continued over the weekend with the presentation of the Second Annual Newtown Lantern Parade.seventh grade Art Enrichment students at Newtown Middle School had spent two weeks decorating lanterns so that plenty would be available on Saturday for those who wanted to participate in the parade but did not have a lantern.Rear Window at Edmond Town Hall on September 29; the opening night performance of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, the next production being staged by Town Players of Newtown, September 30 at The Little Theatre; and Music in the Streets, with local musicians serenading diners at restaurants around town, Friday and Saturday, September 30 and October 1.newtownartsfestival.com.

Around dusk on September 24, people of all ages gathered in the parking lot of Cochran House at Fairfield Hills, and followed the walking path from that building on Mile Hill South toward the flagpole and small green between Newtown Hall and Woodbury Hall. Decorated paper lanterns, illuminated by battery-operated lights, were carried by participants to light the way.

Saturday's lantern parade was another 2016 Newtown Arts Festival event. Additional events, coordinated by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, continue through October 1.
