Gymnasts Win Competition

Newtown High School's gymnastics team defeated host Jonathan Law of Milford, along with Foran of Milford and Oxford in a meet on February 4.

The Nighthawks scored 121.65 points, Law had 119.9, Foran scored 116.95, and Oxford tallied 108.15.

Ally Kenny was first in the all around with a score of 32.75. Emily Baktis of Oxford was second with a 32.25 and Kylie Carino of Foran was third with a 30.65. Kenny was first on the balance beam with an 8.3, third on bars with an 8.35, and third on floor with an 8.0. She also scored an 8.1 on vault.

Cam Vazquez was second on vault with an 8.3 and third on floor with a 7.8. Maddie Jannott was fourth in the all around, placed second on beam with an 8.0, and had a strong performance on the vault, scoring an 8.1. Sarah MacMullan was third on the beam with a 7.75 and she had an 8.05 on the vault. Alana O'Donnell scored a 7.7 on vault and also competed floor.

Also competing for Newtown were Amanda Brinkmann on vault, Bella Manfredi on floor, Taylor Krikorian and Olivia Brosnan on bars and beam, and Sammi Olah on beam.

The team's meet against Pomperaug of Southbury, Oxford, and Nonnewaug, originally slated for February 5, has been postponed to a date to be announced, because of the snow.

Newtown will participate in the South-West Conference championships on Thursday, February 11, at New Milford High School, 388 Danbury Road (Route 7), beginning at 5 pm.
