Couple Heads To Mission In Mexico

Robert and Mary Seeley of Brookfield, of the Newtown Ward of The Church of Jesus of Latter-Day Saints, have left to serve a three-year mission in Puebla, Mexico. Mr Seeley will serve as the Mission President there.

The Seeleys are looking forward to sharing the message of Jesus Christ with the people of Mexico. Mr Seeley will help guide more than 230 young men and women who serve as missionaries for the LDS church. Young men can go on missions when they are 18, while young women can go on a mission when they are 21.

This is not the first time Mr Seeley has been on a mission in Mexico; when he served as a missionary as a young man of 20, he was also sent to Mexico to spread the gospel for two and a half years.

“This is great. I don’t think that there is a greater calling in the church. I think it’s going to be time consuming but rewarding for the next three years,” Mr Seeley said. “The church has grow since I was there.”

As Mission President, Mr Seeley hopes that he will be able to teach the missionaries skills that they will use for a lifetime as well as on their missions.

“I hope to make leaders out of the missionaries who serve while I’m there from this opportunity,” Mr Seeley said. “If I do that, I’ll come back a better person also.”

Mr Seeley is excited that his wife will be his companion this time around while they serve in Mexico. Mrs Seeley is also thrilled to be providing service in another country.

“I just feel it’s a wonderful opportunity. I hope we can take the things we know and be helpful to others,” Mrs Seeley said. “I really feel this is a tremendous opportunity at this season in our lives when so many people are wondering what to do. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn a new language and culture.”

Mr Seeley has been a member and chairman of the Brookfield Library Board for many years. Mrs Seeley was on the program committee for the Brookfield Library Summer Concert series, vice president of the Danbury Concert Association, a member of the Trio di Camerati, and a flute player with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra.

The Seeleys have lived in the area for the last 18 years. They have four children, James Seeley of Bethel, Mark Seeley of Bethel, Rusley Newbold of Danbury, and Alyson Freedman of Utah; and nine grandchildren.

Anyone wishing to write to the Seeleys may do so by sending a letter to Puebla Mexico Mission, Robert and Mary Seeley, PO Box 30150, Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0150.
