Adele Unger is featured this week.

Occupation: I manage the Newtown and Danbury offices of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty.

Family: I have a son, Brandon, who will be a sophomore next year at Newtown High School. My daughter, Alexa, is going into second grade at Sandy Hook School. My parents and my ex-in-laws live in Newtown, too.

Pets: We have a cat named after a Pokeman, Togatic, when my son was in the second grade.

How long have you lived in Newtown? My family moved to Newtown in 1977. I was going into first grade.

What do you like to do in your free time? Mainly, I spend time with my children. I like to boat on Candlewood Lake, and we love to go to movies at Edmond Town Hall. We go geocaching, which is a digital treasure hunt that takes you out into nature. And we like to travel. I love to scuba dive, and I read when I have the chance.

What have you read recently? I just read Room: A Novel, by Emma Donoghue. It was interesting, but such a sad story.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Anywhere that has a beach. I enjoyed the Cayman Islands, and Maui and Kona, Hawaii, especially. I’m planning a trip to Costa Rica next year for my fortieth birthday, with friends. That’s going to be fun.

What is the best thing about Newtown? It’s home. It’s a safe place and it’s friendly. It’s small, but close to wonderful things and culture. There are good schools here, and good people.

What is the most positive change you have seen in Newtown? I think that the Newtown Youth Academy is a great addition to town for kids. It gives them somewhere to go and something to do. Newtown has changed, but it has kept its charm.

Who do you most admire? My mother. She’s incredible. She goes out of her way to help me and has an incredible amount of integrity, and a moral foundation that she lives by. She’s my rock. She is always there for anyone who needs her, and she really cares about other people.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Typically, people hear me say, “I make decisions so I can sleep at night.” I try not to do things that I can’t look my children in the eyes. That’s how I try to make every decision, in business and in my personal life.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Probably gourmet food. I went to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. I have an AA in culinary arts and a degree in baking and pastries. Probably good wines, as well!
