NEW BRITAIN — Newtown artist Diane Dutchick has had a piece of her work selected for inclusion in “Nor’easter,” the 53rd annual juried exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art.

The exhibition will be on view September 21 through October 8. An opening reception and awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 12-1:30 pm, to which the public is invited.

This prominent show highlights the exceptional work of emerging and established artists in all media across the region.

Dutchick was a fine arts instructor in the Newtown School District and New York schools. Her works have been exhibited at New Britain Museum of American Art, Yale University, The Discovery Museum, Wesleyan University, and University of Hartford, among others.

She has shown in numerous juried and invitations shows, as well as solo shows in the region. Her work is in both public and private collections across the country.

Dutchick’s work selected for the exhibition, “Wildfire,” is a multi-media piece composed of metal and decommissioned fire hoses. The sculpture is in response to the social, political, and environmental climate affecting all of us at this time.

Its expressive use of colors reflects warnings and inherent risks that exist today, according to the artist. It is both a complex and colorful weaving of contemporary art.

Fritz Horstman was this year’s juror of selection and awards. Horstman is a curator, educator, and artist based in Bethany, where he is education director at The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation.

Dutchick was one of 73 artists to have pieces accepted into this year’s exhibition.

The New Britain Museum of American Art is at 56 Lexington Avenue in New Britain. It is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am-5 pm (Thursdays until 8 pm).
