To the Editor:

Tom Long has been volunteering on the Legislative Council for the past couple of years. He is the type of person that really enjoys discussions about Capital Improvement Plans, town budgets, open space acquisition and even shopping bag ordinances.

Believe me, I have heard enough about it.

Since we moved to Newtown 18 years ago, he has volunteered on a number of boards from Economic Development to the library. I am very proud of his efforts and believe he works for the best interest of the town. Additionally, I think it is great that he gets out of the house a few times a month.

Voting for Tom in the upcoming election would be a very good outcome for all. Otherwise, he may play more pickleball and we don’t need that. In all seriousness, Tom has over 20 years’ experience when you consider his time working on a Congressional staff, his years volunteering in town and being the operations leader for multiple state-wide publicly funded programs.

People who know Tom find him straightforward and honest. You can be confident with him that his judgment is sound, and his heart is in the right place.

So, please do me a favor and return Tom Long to the Legislative Council so he can talk to me more about plans to improve our roads, sidewalks and bridges.
